Great post Andi! Is it possible to add which ones support 850/1900 WCDMA Bands? As it gets very confusing ATM for users living in America (The Continent, not what some ppl think is a Country), to choose which mobile works over here. Cheers m8!

Hey Andi! Maybe you can add the Star S5 Butterfly, it’s just out and there are prices as low as 219 dollars (international)! Maybe I can write a hands-on review about it when I receive it? I think in between 14 and 30 days. Another question, how is Star software and quality wise?

    • Spinning cat
      March 20, 2013

So you ordered it, Tibor? Please review when you recieve it! I’m thinking about buying this phone or the MIZ Z2 instead of waiting forever for the Jiayu G4.
I’m very curious about stuff like the build quality, camera quality and GPS for the Star S5/MIZ Z2. Is the GPS performance better with MTK6589 phones?

I followed the thread at xda developers on the Star B94M and it looks like that build quality is not too great: incomplete software (syncing), bad GPS and some compaints about the screen being a little off at registering a touch so a guy always launched an icon next to the one he wanted for instance.

      • Tibor
        March 20, 2013

Yes I did order it, I also have my fair share of doubts, but I cannot wait for the Jiayu G4 anymore. This just takes too long. About what you say, I think these issues are not that big, accept for the screen issue. I really hope this phone won’t have that problem! The GPS problem can be solved and the camera issue, which I found, can be solved also. It’s just sad the chinees have such bad software! When I receive it I will give a review!

          March 20, 2013

Would be great if you recieved it before march 26th. That’s when the shopping festival day of aliexpress is. When you enter it you’ll be able to get a max discount of 20 USD on an order if I understand correctly. Started 2 days ago..
I might order the MIZ Z2. As usual specs differ for every reseller (battery 2000-25000 mAh, ROM 4-8 Gb) so you’re never sure what you’re gonna get. I do like the red so for me would also be a great alternative for the Jiayu G4. Just hope it has IPS and gorilla glass.

          • Tibor
            March 20, 2013

It will not have Gorilla glass and it should have a 12.6 megapixel camera, although I think it will have an 8 megapixel camera with 12.6 megapixel interpolation. Further, I am almost sure it has 8 gigabytes of Rom, which can be extended with only a 16gb sd card. It also has a 2500 mah battery which is more than enough. These specs are enough for me to pay the 175 euro’s, which is nothing for those specs.

          • Tibor
            March 21, 2013

Hey! I cancelled my order, just did not entirely trust the specifications and I did not want to go for less than the Jiayu. I will wait for the G4, which will at least take 2 months I guess! For the camera, I am sure it is at least an 8 MP camera, I think all the sellers copied the information from Pandawill. I do not think it is a real 12MP camera though. By the way, Jiayu will not be delivering at the end of March, the company again has confirmed that there is extra time needed I heard…

      • Tibor
        March 21, 2013

Pandawill, it is a reliable website, only sometimes a bit slow in delivery! Haha, you can trust them, they have always given me a refund when I wanted to cancel an order:).

      • Tibor

I think I will be ordering the S5 next week from aliexpress. There are some sellers with good reviews. Just watched the youtube reviews (thanks Eli): screen quality seems OK, but camera spec is indeed weird: Antutu says 12,6 Mp but the camera itself gives a mx of 6 Mp.Does anybody know how that can happen?
Does make you wonder about the rest of the specs, for instance the battery capacity since almost all specs on the box are wrong. What’s up with these Chinese? Would it hurt to be a little bit more. precise in the specs? Still, camera is not that important to me and the pictures taken look decent.
@ Andi: would like to do something in return for getting my info from your site so if you would like me to post a review of the phone I’m up for that.

If you have the phone camera on fullscreen rather than 4:3 then the max is 6mp on 4:3 it it the full 12mp

  10. March 20, 2013

it would be nice, if there were dimensions too in the table, especially if the phones can be sorted by them.

  11. Camaman
    March 20, 2013

    Great list!
I think you have the most comprehensive grasp on all the specs out there.

That is why I think you should make it interactive web app and include filters so we can combine them. Say >4″, 2000mAh

That is the thing most online shops are only partially doing good. In most of them once you chose one filter many are not available for further narrowing down the choices.
Searching a higher res modern Tablet that has 3G is even more of a pain.

A cool Android app powered by some adds would also be a nice touch in the future.
Maybe with personal profiles and notifications when a device of a searched specs appears in the announcements or rumors. 🙂

Im still waiting for the premium Jiayu g4, but if its gonna take a while i want a phone with these specs.

    -720P+
    -2500mah+
    -gorilla glass
    -4-5Inch
    -1Gb+ ram
    -$250 international max

        Big Cola 2
        Newman K1
        iOcean X7 Premium
        Neo N003

I also need a realiable phone, because im importing it to Europe, returning for reparation will be loads of trouble. From what i have read about the Jiayu G3 i think Jiayu offers great quality and reliability.

        • March 20, 2013

Star S5 not on the list?
    How come?

    • March 28, 2013

I did the list before the S5 came out. The next list will include it, plus the Nekken N5 (which looks the same) 🙂

i bought three different clones and the problem is all the same. the battery just SUCK. what the hell I want a great phone if at 2 in the afternoon it’s off.

This is the most annoying thing I find in all the chinese phones by far.
THere should allow you to by high capacity batteries like the one in the Note 2.

    • March 29, 2013

Lenovo have a 3500mAh phone, then Narudo batteries are massive to, and the Vivo Xplay is meant to have a huge 4300mah unit

Don’t buy clones then, get something original from JiaYu, Umi, Neo or Newman. Also, the Goophone I9 should be in the list. It looks like a ZTE Nubia Z5 and has great specs!

I was really looking forward to acquiring one of these MT6589 smartphones, but latest news here in Brazil are disapointing: Anatel (Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications that got powers of granting, regulation and supervision over telecom) is implementing smartphone-blocking through IMEI. Basically, the only models allowed are the ones sold by the abusive carriers. It’s a lobby thing: smartphones like Samsung Galaxys costs 2 to 3 times the USA’s price, and almost 6 times a Jiayu G4. That means that all of these China’s phones are going to get blocked here in Brazil.
Andi, do you know if the Chinese got something to fight this? Are they aware that they are going to lose market?
