Can you comment on the temperature andi?

    • May 15, 2013

It’s lovely and sunny here thanks 🙂 I’ve not had much gaming time with it yet, as of now though it’s kept cool. I’ll make a note to really test it out for the review though and see if I can get it hot 😉

        I’m glad you’re enjoying the weather 😛

Thanks, I’d be cool (pun intended :P) to read the first hand experience of that usually-overlooked aspect even though it’s one of the thing mediatek advertise of MT6589. 😀

  3. May 15, 2013

Andi could you show us a picture/video of the notif LED in action?
Also, Pandawill have changed their ‘lead time’ to August, and on their Facebook page they said that the G4 will not be going outiside of China for quite some time. Could you confirm this?

Andy any connections issues etc when making, receiving phone calls and text messages ?

    • May 15, 2013

      Nope it’s been great.

  9. May 15, 2013

Vellamo scores would be nice as the browser is most important thing on the smartphone (I guess) 🙂

  10. Simon
    May 15, 2013

What is the difference between Antutu & Vellamo ?

    • May 15, 2013

Vellamo focuses on testing browser performance while Antutu is more allaround performance measurement. Vellamo would tell you better how your Internet surfing experiance would be compared to Antutu scores. 🙂

  12. May 15, 2013

    Andi, Awesome video!
Would like to know about WCDMA support. Whether it supports 850Mhz or only 2100 please.
    Thanks 🙂

  13. May 15, 2013

Also GPS connection speed and general signal strength if biking out of the city.

    Andy,

    1. Would you say that you are happy with your Jiayu G4? (or there is some incurable problem)

    2. Where is your story about traveling to China? 🙂

    • May 15, 2013

      Lukis,

      1. Yes, I am happy with it.
      2. It would be a long story as I’ve been here for the past 10 years 😉

    May 15, 2013

Hi andy. I have ( like a lot of people !) Had a g4 advanced on order for about a million years now :-)the supplier (mermerimobiles) after kicking up a fuss this week they tell me they have spoken to the factory and it will be supplied next week…… Should I put any faith in this do you think ?

    • May 15, 2013

I haven’t heard anything about the full production run. I see if there is any news today.

      • Norman Zakaria
        May 15, 2013

I’ve had an order on Merimobiles as well and they’ve told me that they will get stock next week too but I think that’s a load of bull. I remember reading somewhere on jiayu’s official forum (bbs.ejiayu .com) that they will start producing the Advanced version in June which still seems possible.

Thanks to Pandawill setting up the leadtime to August which is 3 months from now, a lot of people have asked for a refund on most online resellers websites. I doubt it’ll actually be released in August, i’m sure they’re just putting that up there so they wont have anymore troubles incase Jiayu delays the June launch but that is making other resellers like Merimobiles for example to make stupid promises like saying stock will come in next week in order for them to keep their customers.

Basically, dnt trust any reseller and try and keep a lookout for official word on Jiayu Forum. If i’m not mistaken Jiayu is aiming for a June launch. I’ll try and find that post again if possible but so far that’s all I know.

        • Simon
          May 16, 2013

Out of interest, did you know Merimobiles are based in Canada. (I think the same maybe true of FastCardTech).

    • Simon
      May 16, 2013

Rob, I have heard different things regarding the Jiayu G4, maybe at the end of the month, maybe in August. Maybe Andi can found out more from his contacts. If it doesnt materialise in the next 2 months, I might try ZTE.

      • Norman Zakaria
        May 16, 2013

If it doesnt come up in June I might just buy myself the new Galaxy S4 Google Edition launched today at Google I/O.

        • Simon
          May 16, 2013

          Whats the Google edition ?

      • rob
        May 16, 2013

If it doesn’t get released next week, am going to cancel order and get the cheapest available quad core I can ! On another note, interesting what you say about merimobiles being canadian. Its funny how in ‘normal’ correspondence with them ie, sales enquiries, they have perfect English but when it comes to ‘where is my stuff’, ‘I want compensation for all this mucking about’ they seem to revert to either playing dumb or comedy Chinese English 🙂

        • Simon
          May 16, 2013

          They are based in Montreal

    May 15, 2013

Andi…. After the Jiayu G3’s battery capacity claim of 2700mah claim, I am not going to trust the chinese on the any of the battery capacity claims…. You got to do something about testing the battery to find out the actual MAH figure.

    • JanM
      May 17, 2013

It does seem any people have had battery time issues with the G3, most solved by rom change. I’ve always had 2 days use on a charge, fairly average usage, no juice defender. So hopefully they get the software part right with the g4, as the G3 has been a superb phone for me, once I got Cyanogenmod 10.1 on it.

Andi can u pls check all supported Band Modes of Jiayu G4 and Umi X2 in your full review ? It’s very easy to check, just type *#*#3646633#*#* and press “BandModes” (check both “Sim1” and “Sim2”) and take photo/screen shoot for your incoming great review 😉

    • May 15, 2013

      +1

    • May 15, 2013

      yup, will do

    • May 15, 2013

      Just tried, it didn’t work.

      • XrainX
        May 15, 2013

Yes, is very possible on many MT6589 smartphones the *#*#3646633#*#* combination to not work.
Install the free Mobileuncle Tools from play.google.com and go to: Engineer Mode > Engineer Mode (MTK) > Band Mode

Hello, I have little experience with purchase from Chinese retailers.
Though I am very interested in this phone ( I do not even care about the 2 Gb RAM version). Sadly it has been very confusing (and limiting) going around trying to order this device. Mainly because I was unable to select the color which I wanted and contradictory product description in the “name” and in the product details =/. I would really like to get a version which has a black front and white back (like in your video Andy), and I am not sure if there is a possibility to get the 1GB RAM version with 32Gb of internal memory and 3000 Mah battery. Maybe somebody could point me to a location where I can order the above listed desires 🙂 if it is even possible.
thx ^^, and sorry for the longer post

  22. May 16, 2013

another question, this model has the voice command like the same with galaxy s3?

  28. taciano alex
    May 19, 2013

and in the case of the NEO model N003 this product is good and what is the difference with jiayu G4?

  29. Simon
    May 19, 2013

Out of interest lets just say a lot of people buy the Jiayu G4 when it is launched, what support will there be for it in terms of custom roms etc. Of course we can all help each other on here by having a Jiayu G4 section in the forums. Any views on this – isn’t it best to buy a phone which has alot of support, as opposed to buying a phone which has little or no support on the net.

    Am I making sense

wonder any of you having this problem as i am
My phone is always warm , battery drains very very fast despite having 3000mah.
Usage moderate but wont last for 1 day.
I had its simcard removed, TF card removed. battery removed and plug in didnt on the unit, it is still warm and draining battery.
Cut my sim into Mini sim which the iphone accepts. But the G4 wont detect the sim. ….
to be honest, the screen is so nice , camera good… but i am very frustrated with the phone so far
