The entry-level Xiaomi Hongmi has been getting a lot of attention since it launched in July, now news of a WCDMA version is sure to excite international Xiaomi fans!
The Xiaomi Hongmi is current the cheapest and largest Xiaomi phone which you can buy (the Mi3 is larger but on sale just yet). The only issue we have had is that the current Hongmi is only available in a China Mobile TD-SCDMA compatible model. This is no use to us here at GizChina as we all use China Unicom and no use to International fans as TD-SCDMA only works in China!
Gizchina News of the week
We have already reported an a WCDMA version of the Hongmi here, but now it looks like Xiaomi will soon make an official announcement about the new phone! The WCDMA version of the Hongmi will be designed to work with China Unicom, however some lucky international fans will be able to make use of the phone on 3G networks outside of China!
The 799 Yuan 4.7-inch phone boasts impressive hardware for the price including a 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589T processor, 1GB RAM, 8 mega-pixel Samsung rear camera, dual SIM support and SD card memory expansion.

Very interesting news! But we still need to wait which 3G bands will be available: 850? 900? 2100MHz?
I feel they’ll have the same bands as one of the other Xiaomi models.
I’d go for the M2S bands: 850/1900/2100 MHz, since it’s a sort of “international” model and both 850 and 2100 bands are the most used worldwide.
If it is not the M2S, I’d go for 3G dual band 850/2100 as many other MTK phones around have.
hmm, so it will be 2100MHz, and thats it ?
ill buy immediately if it will have 900MHz 🙂
