Google are expected to bring the card based Google Now notification system to Google Chrome Beta for desktops.

Developers running the latest Canary builds of Chrome have already had access to Google Now on their desktops for some time, but activating it met messing around with flags to enable it. Now for Chrome Beta will be automatically activated and will come to Mac, Windows and Chrome OS users later this week.

If you want to test it out you will have to install the Beta version of Google Chrome from here.
