Xiaomi’s next move could be to launch smart home products

What’s next for Xiaomi? It could well be a arrange of smart home products.

The official Xiaomi Weibo has published an images detailing a new product launch for the 10th October. Xiaomi already have a range of phones, a tablet, smart TV’s, gamepad and even a wearable, so what could the possibly have planned?

The image teaser, along with sources, suggest that Xiaomi will be launching a new smart home home appliance. Smart home products hit the news earlier this year when Google bought start up Nest, a manufacturer of smart phone controlled thermostats and a smoke alarm.

Gizchina News of the week

The images on the Weibo teaser show a wall socket, bulb, clock and something which could either be a thermostat of smoke alarm. Any one of these products could easily be controlled by any of the Xiaomi phones or tablet over WIFI or data connections before coming home.

Of the possibilities what smart home product would you like to see Xiaomi launch?

Not so sure a thermostat or smoke detector are fitting for China now. Air quality detector or purifier might make more sense. In fact air quality sensor in a phone could make sense but not sure if there are any small enough. Maybe a smart lock for bikes could make sense.
There is no point to make the same products as US companies make. A developing nation has different needs and people are less likely to spend on pointless things.
TBH they need to update the Redmi and Note already if they want their explosive growth not to lose momentum and a cheaper tablet wouldn’t hurt either. Their product line is not as interesting and exciting as it could and should be.
