Taiwanese start-up AOX plan to launch 2 new phones built to “Taiwan Quality” standards with 2GB RAM and large 4000mAh battery, not to mention OS portability!
The sight of a new brand with big ideas is a common one for us at GizChina. We see new Chinese brands and phones daily but today we received news of something a little different.
Start-up AOX (Android Odssey Xplorer) are a Taiwanese based brand who want fans to “Forget Chinese” and get ready for some “Taiwan Quality”. The details don’t end there though!
Gizchina News of the week
AOX will offer two new phones and plan to launch them in Hong Kong, and through retail stores in Dubai and India. The models will only cost $60 and $100 in store yet boast 2GB RAM, 4000mAh battery with Sharp JDI displays and Sony camera sensors all wrapped in an alloy chassis.
So what about this OS portability feature? Well according to AOX they are focussed on sleek and handy phones featuring multiple OS portability including Android, Ubuntu and Cyanogen. We don’t know if this means a dual boot type of arrangement or if it means separate phones running different OS, but which ever it is the prospect for such a well equipped and low costs phones are certainly enticing.
Show me a working phone, then we can talk about price.
Just what we need another Chinese phone war. But this time I see only good coming from it.
Taiwan is another country as far as the Taiwanese are concerned!
it IS another country afaik. and it also makes gaming pc equipment and is like paradise for me !
There’s a lot of countrys still believing they are not, that’s what I said 😉
ur right about that !
all these market wars are bound to profit us end-users !
makes me really excited !
I like how this brand is so new their website consists out of one page only ^_^
Sounds good 🙂 We need xaomi, meizu, etc. killer on hardware and especially software
What’s wrong with chinese build quality?
nothing, especially as many Taiwanese companies moved their manufacturing to the mainland over the past decade.
yes and many decent car manufacturing plants (e.g. Luxgen) too, but in the 20 years i’ve been going there the factories that used to line the roads have mostly dissapeared. Cross strait agreements, simple economics and a more demanding workforce, encourage many to switch manufacturing location.
SOFTWARE Dude!
Software is important part of phone as hardware and build quality. I just used meizu m1 note. Flyme Os is really crappy. OK., it has fantastic & different and usable ui. On the other hand, just Flyme os eats 1.3GB ram. So, multitasking sucks and phone is starting to stuck and lag. And also, Flyme apps old, slow and buggy. For instance, browser app. It is customized old version of Chrome. When you open 3 or 4 tabs, it is immediately crashing. Email app can’t connect server when you are on Wi-Fi internet. Phone app is really premature which has not got fundamental functions like saving number directly to sim card. Plus, late notifications. As a result, m1 note has higher specs with build quality, but it’s Flyme os is not well optimized and softwares buggy. So, there is no satisfied user experience.
If Taiwan quality has solutions for software issues, yes, I am in. Because, hardware and build industry was developed very well in all around the world.
