First official sneak peak at the all metal Xiaomi Mi Pad 2

It looks like our gut was right and we will at least be seeing the upcoming all metal Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro along with an all new, all metal Xiaomi Mi Pad 2.

Just a day after posting the first official image of a gold Xiaomi phone with rear fingerprint scanner, Xiaomi has posted another teaser image this time showing an all metal tablet that is most likely the 2nd generation Xiaomi Mi Pad 2.

Gizchina News of the week

Earlier Mi Pad 2 rumours hinted that the tablet would feature an Intel chipset and that it might even boast a dual boot operating system that would allow the tablet to run either Android or Windows 10.

A benchmark on Geekbench had the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 running an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 quad-core processor, clocked at 2.24GHz, with 2GB of RAM and Android 5.1. Pricing is sure to be similar to the original plastic model at around 1499 Yuan, while a more upmarket version (hopefully with LTE) is rumoured to cost 1799 Yuan.

Why not 3GB RAM? 🙁 That teaser looks lovely though!

You can’t compare ARM and Intel cpus by simply looking at the numbers

How does one compare it then? Not like I’m only looking at antutu. The intel is better at some benchmarks, the K1 at others so my conclusion is that neither are better than the other in terms of performance.

Reading reviews of both chips suggest the Intel has a stronger CPU and the K1 has better graphics performance so in my case I would rather choose the K1.

Of course I’m not too bothered as I have a Mi Pad already and I’m generally happy with it. None of the Nexus, Samsung tablets or iPads have tempted me away from the Mi Pad.

The only thing I don’t fully like about it is that it looks like a cheap plastic copy of the iPad Mini.

everything about this tablet is awesome .. except the ram. Even 4GB would be enough for me to not want it for windows 10. 2GB makes that operating system just ridiculous.

If they put 8GB in it they could literally double the price and it would still sell like hot cakes.

Teclast X98 pro with less ram , no dual boot and more expensive..?

If the technical leaks are right, then this is a big disappointment for me and I have waited so long for this tablet…

The only thing that’s not that great is the RAM but the Atom chip is very good.

Its really not. The tegra k1 will be faster, at the expense of a thinner tablet.

Just because the Tegra is faster doesn’t mean the Atom isn’t a good chip. Not everyone needs pure raw speed. I would prefer a thinner tablet to a faster one.

You pay big money for a faster chip, if an atom can barely beat a mediatek why bother with it?

I don’t pay big money for a chip. A chip is one of a thousand components that makes up a device. And for me, who isn’t a power user it is one of the last things I consider. Not everyone cares about fast the processor is, most people never even take advantage of that speed.

But the X5 chip has comparable speed to a SD810 and it doesn’t throttle and overheat.

I was waiting for Mi Pad 2 but 2GB of RAM very disappointing if true. Needed atleast 3GB, preferably 4GB. Looks like I’m going with Chuwi Hi10 or Teclast X16 Pro then.

No flash on the camera? Hope the real specs are different. I got real excited waiting for the Lenovo X3—remember that one? Rumored specs were top-notch and the rumored price was only $200, but in reality the price was $470.

Why would you even want to take pictures with a tablet… You got a phone or camera for that and it just looks retarded…

I can’t wait for the official specs. Dual boot would be an interesting feature for me but I would then love to see a bit more ram (3gb or 4gb). Also LTE is not really something I require. I always use Bluetooth or Wifi Tethering anyway and otherwise you will need two contracts and sims. I actually love the all metal design, I think the plastic back was the only reason for the tablet not be a full blown Apple competitor.

no, it wount! It is totally not comfortable to read internet pages “as is” on the 7.9 inch screen. You have to zoom them, like on a phone.
the same is for A4 pdfs.

    2GB RAM ?!
    < 9.7" ?!
    "maybe" dual OS ?!
    1500-1800 yuan ?!

it can't compete with teclast / cube
but xiaomi fanboys will eventually buy this

I had a Teclast tablet that died after 3 months due to terrible component quality. I think having a trustworthy Chinese brand that does proper quality control is a good thing.

You may be right ! My first teclast died of an unvoluntary kick (it was in a sport bag where it didn’t belong) after 4 month of use, and my X98 AIR is 8 month old without hiccup so Teclast has a clean record with me. But I concede it may be luck.

From my point of view MiPAD 2 is still not worth buying because specs are too low. What can you do with Win10 and 2GB RAM ? Not much.

    My prediction:
    2GB/16GB
    4GB/64GB

PS: Atom x5-Z8500 quad-core processor are capable to support up to 4GB RAM.
