Remember the all metal UMi Zero that launched around this time last year? Well it’s back in the headlines today for finally getting Android 5.1 courtesy of Cyanogen 12.1.

The UMi Zero launched at around the end of last year with Android 4.4 Kitkat, and due to the fact it was running an octacore Mediatek MT6592 chipset and no sources were made available for the SoC, customers were pretty much stuck on Kitkat.

UMi did launch a couple of custom ROMs for the phone, and even developed RootJoy for easily installing those ROMs, but customers always felt that they were missing out by not having Lollipop on their phones.

Gizchina News of the week

If you are a UMi Zero owner and have perceived with the phone then your patience is about to pay off as UMi have announced that Cyanogen 12.1 is available for the UMi Zero, and as we all know CM12.1 is an Android 5.1 Lollipop build.

As far as we know the CM12.1 system is up and available to download through RootJoy now. We haven’t tried the system ourselves but would love to hear your feedback on the updated ROM.
