Xiaomi boss Lei Jun has posted another screenshot from his Xiaomi Mi5 sample showing the phone will feature VoLTE.
Lei Jun’s previous Xiaomi Mi5 related teasers have shown NFC and dual SIM support, along with some striking photo of a bird in flight. A new screen shot today confirms the inclusion of NFC and dual SIM support while also revelling that the Mi5 will feature VoLTE.
VoLTE, aka Voice Over LTE, is basically a way that carriers can get rid of their old 2G infrastructure by sending voice data over LTE. Benefits for the consumer include high definition call quality and battery battery life.
Gizchina News of the week
A more interesting feature that could be enabled with faster voice data transfer is realtime voice translation! This RCS (Rich Communications Services) feature isn’t likely to be seen for some time, but we will see an improvement in video conferencing and calls off the bat.
The Xiaomi Mi5 will be revealed in China and at MWC on the 24th Feb. The phone is believed to measure in at around 5.2-inches with 1920 x 1080 display, have a Snapdragon 820 chipset and a curved design.
More teasing… Looks like only thing not being accurate in these fakes slides 2 days ago is going to camera parameters.
Well the Redmi Note 3 pro already has VoLTE so it’s no surprise that the flagship would.
I was going to said that too.
The problem is that the infos about the RN3 Pro are still incomplete and sometimes wrong.
I’ve seen reviews(that’s how they call it) of the phone in which they state that it doesn’t have SD card support.
For whoever is interested the Redmi Note 3 Pro has:
SD Card slot / dual sim
Volte
IR blaster
Though decision to make, Redmi Note 3 Pro, Xiaomi MI5 or going for a budget phone like the Redmi 3 (offers a lot for the money) or Xiaomi MI4C. Just read somewhere that the price of the MI4C will get a 50$ cut just after the release of the MI5. Seriously, if the basic MI5 version is sold below 300€ through resellers I might be tempted to get one but I know I dream a lot :D.
The mi4c is 250 usd today. If it drops to 200 usd that will be the best phone for money ever to exist
You are right, the advanced MI4C at 200$ is a must have. Redmi 3 is a very good budget phone too. If the price of the MI4C decline to 200USD I will get it for sure it. Some shops have already started to make some offers on the MI4C which a positive sign. If the price remains the samen then I will go for the Note 3 Pro or the MI5 basic version if its price is not inflated too much.
Sorry to disappoint you but there’s no way the MI5 will cost €300 from resellers.
The phone will cost in China 1999 CNY which equals to $325.
That’s the basic version I’m talking about.
Given that price in expecting reseller sell this one for about $400 (probably a little more during the first 2 months and less after it)
The point is that you can’t be torn between the MI5 and Redmi3.
They are two different phones for a very different price.
It’s all about budget at the end.
I understood that you like smaller display so just pick something between Redmi3 or MI4C.
Redmi3 is priced at $160 right now (from reseller) while MI4C can go as low as $220 for the 16GB version.
With Redmi3 you get a solid phone with big battery and SD card while the MI4C offer a very good camera and other premium features.
If camera is one of your priorities then go with MI4C.
Thanks Max, definitely the basic will be much around 375€ 2 months after availability in the market. Millions of people are waiting for it so the demand is very high. Ibuygou will sell MI5 basic version at 400€+ at the beginning. Well my favorite size is 5.2″, MWC is pretty close and am sure many devices will be announced shortly with P10 SOC. Let’s wait and see, Redmi Note 3 Pro is still in my list with Redmi 3 and MI4C (if price decline in coming days). On paper Note 3 Pro is a killer on the paper, powerful device with a premium design at a competitive price.
Thanks Balco, yeah you are right I am a bit too optimistic regarding prices. Xiaomi have to make some money too but resellers based on the demand will add a huge profit margin cos they know that millions of people worlwide would buy the MI5 without any hesitation. My best guess for the price after resellers would be around 375€. It is above my budget!!!!
I second everything you said.
That’s why I consult gsmarena for smartphone info as they are mostly (if not always) accurate.
This one will go down to $200 in like a month. It offers a lot for that price, believe me.
i kno … hell even for $300 it would still be a sweet deal … but that price tag would’ve hurt xiaomi.
Although if I’m not wrong the carrier has to support it and it’s just better call quality and stuff nothing ground breaking
Oh look it’s looks exactly like the miui that their other phones use as well
For me (again, for ME) the most interesting thing about dual sim is that most likely it’s an hybrid slot… Better than nothing!
The more, the better! ?
But yeah, most of us can live with 32gb (surely not with 16gb, I hope xiaomi have learnt at least that one)
Actually it’s the opposite.
Lower frequency means longer range but also slower speed.
VoLTE works better with higher frequencies of LTE.
If you can’t get to connect with a better band than 800 MHZ then forget about VoLTE.
You are right about frequencies. I wanted to note that Xiaomi does not care about LTE B20, even it would be necessary in Europe. I hope it will change soon.
It’s not just Xiaomi.
This is all about every Chinese brand that doesn’t operate in Europe.
To add band 20 they have to pay the license fee and doesn’t make sense for them since they don’t sell in Europe.
That worth for Xiaomi, Meizu, LeTV and so on.
Huawei sells in Europe and they usually have Band20.
If LTE is a priority then I would check their phones.
The IR blaster was one of my favorite features of the Mi4. I thought I would never use it but it’s so awesome being able to control all my devices with my phone.
Yea I have 3 nieces and nephews (all under 5) which are always at the house and they love to play with remotes and hide them or throw them.
Just borrow them your MX5, they probably will let the remote alone then. 😛
When the Mi5 comes out they can have it lol. I gotta say though the MX5 has survived a beating. My nephew picked it up and threw half away cross the room, not a scratch on it. I dropped it in a puddle of water, it was fully submerged for a good 3 seconds. Toweled it off and it was like nothing happened.
just a phone with a good CPU and wasting quality. I hope to get 1080p @ 120fps
yes, 2x 16mpx …. 1080p @ 60 / 120fps …. lg knows how to take the maximum hardware. mi5 still with 30fps, why need sd820 ?
“search youtube”. When that is your answer it tells me everything I need to know.
why ? you cant show it ? try deep web….
Hey kid, go play by LG’s forum.
We don’t buy that crap here.
For the same price we buy a MI5 and a new Vivo XShot. Just saying.
vivo xshot lol… nice joke. dont cry with my lumia 1020 tnks. high-end camera ever. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/eee70f4cb452016f2b8d672ea2d7bdfac989cae186f2ebd5fe5db4a9e1ac88c3.jpg
dont cry plz. you cant make 2016 with vivo shot or mi5 ? sorry..
Is that you in the picture?
not just a representative Xiaomi
He did the other day, when you pathetically showed the picture of that cockroach thinking that was better. Lol.
yes with 26mpx right ? hahah joke
yes with 26mpx right ? hahah pathetically you believed. clone project might have something original ? BWAHUAhah sorry for the picture lumia 1020 since 2013.
nokia 808 design 2016 X_x
According to EvLeaks that’s the G5.
He’s pretty reliable and actually he went to a lot of trouble for posting that pic.
No wonder why LG is sinking.
$700+ for that phone!
I can buy a MI5 and a still good Samsung Note 4 for that money.
I do like that xi7 is so obsessed with video recording but then posts photographs from Google.
the picture was bad and now was google?
The picture of the dog is all over google. The picture of the cockroach was terrible and was most likely yours.
low light and sun , both my pic with the best camera ever.
low light and sun , both my pic with the best camera ever.
best camera ever? Maybe camera phone. But definitely not best camera, an entry level DSLR blows this out of the water.
LG has great cameras but they have one of the worst UI’s on Android, it’s loaded with bloat and crapware and the phones themselves are fugly.
but Xiaomi will cost $ 500 to put 1080p @ 60fps / 120fps / 240fps?
i have mi4c and redmi note 2 prime. 29.97fps with sacrifice.
Neither of those cost $500. The Mi4c can be bought right now for $200 and the Redmi 2 Prime for $100.
You keep talking about how important 1080p/60 fps is but then an attempt to make your point you post photographs that have nothing to do with 1080p/60fps. You are all over the place.
because it has not neither one nor the other
They aren’t $500 devices tho like you claim.
you got it wrong about the price, I meant to 60fps would need to cost $ 500
You took the picture of the cockroach, i believe that.
And I’m still laughing at it.
That was quite funny!
You seem to like to argue over specs when they are not all confirmed yet. When a few days ago the slide for the mi5 popped up most people smiled and agreed although having a 26mp camera would be nice we really didnt think it would happen. And alot agreed that a well optimised camera at 16mp would be great. Why are you in the China phone forum bragging about Lg? and telling everyone that the mi5 and vivo are poor quality most of us in here like phones that are based in China for alot of reason one being that Xiaomi make great quality phones for a price generally that big brands such as Lg & Samsung cant build at because there over head are to big. I am more impressed year after year at the quality that comes out of China and the build quality. Banging on and on about Lg is dumb beause they starting price for this phone is not going to be cheap and that not to say that Xiaomi cant compete because i believe they can even if there design of the mi5 is plain compared to the G5 dear lord i am truly glad that phone looks hideous.
I am not criticizing the hardware, Xiaomi, meizu, OnePlus is always using the good and the best. iam talking about lg g2 very old can make 1080@60fps video and xiaomi with strong cpu+memory+sensor was not able
I was making a general point that some how you are almost acting as if the G5 is the second coming regardless of what each phone will have inside
I’m just commenting on a device with both new hardware and xiaomi staying with old functions
And his point is you have no clue what “Functions” Xiaomi or LG is using. Neither phone has been released yet.
More teasing… Looks like only thing not being accurate in these fakes slides 2 days ago is going to camera parameters.

how does it benefit u in daily use ?
a few examples would be nice !
IM INTERESTED but my pocket isnt :p
Better and faster call quality
Voice and data at the same time
Cool name
Cool name
Smart wallet huh? what processor does it have?
haha !

MIUI is the same across all phones.
LOL. carry on then.
For me (again, for ME) the most interesting thing about dual sim is that most likely it’s an hybrid slot… Better than nothing!
Well, as long as basic version has 32GB of int.memory, it’s ok with me.
The more, the better! 😁
But yeah, most of us can live with 32gb (surely not with 16gb, I hope xiaomi have learnt at least that one)

Yea when I cousin’s on my house my remotes mysteriously dissappear…
