Meizu Pro 6 launching 13th April

meizu pro 6 launch date

Meizu are set to have a busy month and plan to launch their flagship Meizu Pro 6 smartphone on the 13th of April.

Earlier this week Meizu launched the 3rd generation Meizu M3 Note, with an all new metal body, larger 4100mAh battery, Helio P10 chipset, fingerprint scanner and option for up to 3GB RAM and pricing from only 799 Yuan!

That’s the first of 7 phones that Meizu are rumoured to be launching this year, but if you think the next launch is months away think again.

Today the company have announced that the launch date for the Meizu Pro 6 is just around the corner and has been penned in to launch on the 13th April. This is likely to excite some fans, but upset current owners of the Pro 5 which only launched at the end of 2015.

meizu pro 6 leaked

So far Meizu haven’t confirmed the specifications of the Meizu Pro 6, and the only other official detail from the brand has been an early spy photo which shows a black alloy phone with innovative ring LED flash with center laser focus.

From an earlier leaked roadmap the Meizu Pro 6 specifications should include a Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset, between 4-6GB RAM, 5.7-inch 2K display, a new mTouch 3.1 fingerprint scanner, 3500mAh battery, HIFI 3.0 sound, NFC and memory options from 32GB to 128GB. The same leaked roadmap also suggests pricing from 2799 Yuan to 3499 Yuan.

I hope they can concentrate more on optimizing their rom’s instead of releasing new phones all the time. My pictures from Vivo X6 Plus are way better than from my MX4. Hardware is always impressive with Meizu but their UX needs more polish.

They did excellent job with optimization of the MX5 and it keeps getting better with each new update.

But you are also comparing a phone that was just released in the last few months (X6 Plus) to one that was released in 2014.

      • April 8, 2016

I know you’re bit of a Meizu fanboy, but are you being objective here?
I’m only asking cos I’m thinking to swap my Mi to a Meizu device, possibly Pro 6.

Actually I am not a Meizu fanboy (yet at least, need to use a few more of their phones before that happens), I have just been really impressed with the MX5. I never owned a Meizu until the MX5. And yes I am being objective, the MX5 is one of the best flagships I have used in a long time, since the Mi3. I have yet to run into a major problem with it.

          • April 8, 2016

            Cool.
I really hope they will change the feel of the home button for pro 6.
I briefly had m2 and mx5 and i really don’t like how they feel. Shallow feedback and kinda cheap…

Yea the home button does have a cheap feeling to it and I hope they improve the fingerprint scanner sometimes with the MX5 it takes a couple tries before it registers.

5.2 inch 1080p, Helio x25, 3GB and 4GB RAM versions, 32GB NAND, 21MP and 5MP cams, pressure touch and maybe a second cam is hidden in that flash ring or at least they use more than 2 LEDs. That roadmap you guys keep pushing has always been total fabulation.
Will be interesting to see how it is priced , hopefully at 1999CNY but that would complicate the Pro 5 pricing.

That screen size seems less than 5.5″ based on the leaked picture of it side by side with Note 3. It looks too narrow comparison to Note 3.

1799 is my guess. 1999 would be like a death sentence for it against Mi5.

The Mi5 is far from appealing and stripped down.
The downclocked SD820 is kinda crappy and the X25 is likely the better choice but we don’t have complete info on power consumption yet for the X25. SD820 is kinda weak though, especially on the CPU side (in efficiency, perf/power).
The Mi5’s screen might have high contrast and brightness but has poor color accuracy(very poor for a flagship). The cam is lacking in pretty big ways. The device has no extra features, just the basics and is ugly and a bit bulky- black bands and horrid home button.
This one might have a home button and i hate that but it’s much better looking, has force touch, that fancy flash, laser autofocus, likelybetter battery life. Could also have better audio , microSD.
I get it that the benchmarking you see is misleading and the fact that SD820 has only been shipping in Samsung and Xiaomi devices fools you into having a better opinion about the Mi5 than it deserves but the reality is that the Mi5 is crappy and others can and will do better. Maybe it won’t be the Pro 6 (if the x25 throttles) but there are others and SD820 is starting to be available to everybody else.

Correct me if I did get something wrong.

You don’t like AMOLED screens at all because of diamond pentile sub-pixel pattern. Also you have been criticized its power consumption. Except the latest Samsung flagships AMOLEDs are not known for color accuracy. AMOLED screens of MX5 and Pro 5 both have poor color accuracies too.

You also don’t like home buttons (just as you mentioned again) and too large chin and foreheads. According to the leaked pictures of Pro 6 its chin and forehead might be even larger than the Mi5’s.

You have criticized the Mi5 for implementing slower UFS if I remember right. This one won’t have any kind of UFS because of the chip doesn’t support it.

My opinion is at same price people will pick Mi5 due significantly powerful GPU, faster storage and RAM, OIS, FinFET and lastly benchmark factor.

So Pro 6 has cheaper SoC for sure. You mentioned that its price has been around $30.

Snapdragon 820 should be around $50-60.

It also has cheaper NAND and RAM units.

At similar size even if AMOLED wasn’t cheaper than LCD like latest reports suggest, it likely won’t be more expensive.

At camera pairs costs should be comparable.

You go on a rant about the MX5 and Pro 5 and AMOLED for an unknown reason when it has nothing to do with the conversation.
Your claim that the Pro 6 is bulkier is bold as Xiaomi does very poorly there, we’ll see.
UFS yeas sure,on paper, problem is that the MI5 has slow storage and it gets even worse when paired with their ROM. In things that are very dependent on storage speed, like app load times, boot time, game load time, the Mi5 loses even to devices with eMMC like the Mate 8 .
The GPU, i dare you to find what you get after playing actual games for 10minutes.The RAM, i dare you to prove that it is faster (bw plus latency equals speed) and to prove the impact of that on actual usage.
I mentioned that the X20 is rumored to cost 30$ but this is the X25 and costs more. SD820 might cost 50-60$ but at 1999CNY you get the lite version that is cheaper. As for wins in benchmarks, only on the GPU side or garbage like Antutu and i’m not talking about the lite version, even the proper version.
Apparently , for no reason, you assume the Pro 6 will have AMOLED, i got no info at all on that one. Anyway, AMOLED is not cheaper, unless you can’t read. That report that you failed to read was talking about cost not the price OEMs pay for it. Samsung isn’t selling it cheaper.

Again, the MI5 is a stripped down ugly duckling and you really should check how poorly the SD820 and MIUI get along, The speed is just not there with the MI5.

              April 8, 2016

Clearly last 2 flagship of Meizu came with AMOLED. Until we have a credible report suggest otherwise assuming it gonna have AMOLED is more likely than LCD.

You criticized AMOLED at every opportunity here.

When you bringed in color accuracy of Mi5’s screen, AMOLED comparison shouldn’t be an unknown reason to you unless you are in denial.

Total costs of SoC, NAND and RAM will be cheaper with X25.

Every benchmarks except multicore CPU, Mi5 will beat the Pro 6 even at NAND benchmarks. Maybe at single core too vs base model of Mi5, but not at other models.

Until actual devices hit the market nobody can compare their actual gaming experience. All you can do is implying GPU of the X25 might be no worse than SD820 without giving actual evidence.

Production cost of AMOLED is cheaper than most expensive type of LCD (LTPS) now. Not every kind of LCD. Report claims nothing further than that. Obviously you missed what I wrote about it. Point is despite production cost of AMOLED is cheaper, even at same cost or at slightly worse cost, difference won’t compansate costs of cheaper SoC, NAND and RAM.

Seemingly you didn’t get that I’m not interesting in defending Mi5.

Same price I would pick the Pro 6 and I am a Xiaomi fan. The reason I would pick the Pro 6 comes down to looks, the Mi5 IMO is fugly.

Despite too narrow home button, Mi5 is most beautiful Xiaomi flagship ever IMO.

Pro 6 is a quite good looking device too except a few details IMO. I prefer metal over glass because latter is susceptible to fingerprint smudges and breaking.

Meizu’s home button shape is much better IMO.

Based on the leaks Pro 6’s design reminds me of iPhone 6 more than previous Meizu phones at some details.

Mi5 is incredibly ulgy looking especially with those gigantic black borders around the home screen. Looks like a generic knockoff of a Samsung phone.

How does the above picture remind you of iPhone 6?? They look nothing alike lol.

              Look at this

              http://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/3413/3493/original.jpg?w=600&h

Pro 6 at the top, MX4 at the bottom and iPhone 6 plus at the middle. Arrangement is same. Audio jack, microphone, port between screws and lastly speaker grills. The curve is pretty similar too.

Curve of the front glass pretty much similar too and it lacks of chamfered edges of MX5 and Pro 5.

              http://cdn2.gsmarena.com/vv/pics/meizu/meizu-mx5-6.jpg

              http://cdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot//reviews/15/meizu-pro-5/gal/-1024x768w1/gsmarena_016.jpg

Straight antenna lines (like HTC’s) has ditched for curved ones. It’s looks more refined and simplified version of iPhone’s.

              http://cdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/news/16/04/meizu-pro-6-photos/inline/-728/gsmarena_002.jpg

Top and bottom bezels seems too long proportionally. It can be spotted even from backside. MX4 had pretty good screen to body ratio. MX5 is good too considering thin body factor. After MX4 step by step their phones somewhat elongated.

              April 8, 2016

I don’t see a resemblance at all other than the bottom of the phone which there is only so many places you can put bottom facing speakers. Looks much more like a continuation of the MX4 than a copy of the iPhone.

“from the earlier leaked roadmap” What about the earlier comments from two of Meizu’s executives both which were posted on this site.

“First up Li Nan stated that the Meizu Pro 6 will not use a 2K display.” – Li Nan

“Also in the discussion the company boss stated that the Meizu Pro 6 will not have a Samsung Exynos 8890 as the chipset does not offer full network support.” – Li Nan

“At the Mediatek conference Meizu boss Bai Yongxiang confirmed that the Meizu Pro 6 will feature the Helio X25 SoC instead. ”

I don’t get the fascination with this leaked roadmap which has already proven false with the release of the M3 Note. Every Meizu article now references it completely ignoring the comments from Meizu themselves and the M3 Note.

My gut feel(forget previous comments and road maps) is that this is a rebranded Pro 5 mini. The floods or whatever it was, delayed production so now its pushed quite far into 2016 so they have upped the numbering to 6. The Mx6 will be released sometime in June/July. Then nearer the end of the year we will get the Exynos 8890/2K screen version as Pro 6 max(or some crap 🙂 ). This is me guessing so its not based on any facts, then again neither are most of these leaks 😉

    • Guaire

Pro 5 Mini would be a 4.7 incher. The source of that screen size was vice president of Meizu.

      • Tremaine Underwood
        April 8, 2016

Ja I guess the screen size kinda determines if its the mini version. I still don’t believe this is the full on Pro 6. I would have said this is the MX6, but I got the Meizu’s official advert come through on my phone the other day and theonly thing that wasn’t Chinese was PRO 6 in capital letters 🙂
