Coolpad Cool1 with dual-rear camera, 4060mAh battery launched for 14k INR in India

Coolpad Cool1 Specifications

The Coolpad/LeEco collaboration bore fruit in the form of the Cool1 a few months back. The very dual rear camera phone is now official in India with what I feel is a rather lucrative price tag.

The Cool1 will go against the likes of the Redmi Note 3, which despite their age on the market, continue to sell in big numbers. The Coolpad Cool1 is priced at 13,999 INR or $205.

The Cool1 comes with a glossy metal body and a dual camera module that is in stark contrast to the rest of the body, and thus accentuated. Let’s have a quick look at the specs.

Not really. They’re slowing down on expansion. But with media being what it is they made it into a huge deal

Hopefully someone can upload the official Indian ROM ; would be great to get rid of the Chinese apps on my current Chinese Cool1.

Try grossoshop rom if it works with the bands in your area, it’s great because it’s done by one of the best modders for leeco devices, BB72… It’s a modded eui without bloatware and with many fix here and there, everyone say it’s very good!

Anyway, can I ask you an opinion about the phone? I’m on the verge of buying it, so a report from a user would be great!

The AliExpress vendor had preinstalled BB72’s ROM (removing the GrossShop logo ofc). I ended up installing the stock LeEco ROM on it, as I had no use for multi-language support and rather wanted to be able to get OTA updates. (Also, I never can get around to trust vendor ROMs.)

Camera: Dual camera setup is mostly a gimmick. Only time both of them are simultaneously active is when using the DSLR/bokeh-mode. Normal pictures in decent lighting look good. Even pictures in poor lighting conditions are somewhat satisfying. Video is good. It seems like they fixed some of the focus issues in a recent update.

Screen: Good colors. Gets pretty dim as well as pretty bright. There’s a visible bezel around the screen ; doesn’t bother me.

Battery: Impressive. Lasts ME three days. (Have not installed Google Play Services [personally no need for it], which I think helps the battery life)

Audio: Speaker is loud and produces no distortion on loud volumes. Microphone quality is good.

Build: Metal build with plastic top and bottom for signal reception. Buttons don’t wobble. Feels great in the hand. Weight is fine (not too heavy, I guess).

OTA: Got an update two weeks ago. Have not heard if they are going to release an Android N update (to be honest, I don’t really care).

        Fingerprint: Fast. Accurate.

Overall: Phone wakes up quickly. Screen is responsive. I hit something and it detects it instantly. Apps launch fast. There seems to be no RAM management issues. GPS works great.

Never installed GPlayS on my device. Prefer to install APKs directly from a reliable source.

Take a look at the actual rom, maybe you were running the (bad) multilinguage rom that was spread at the beginning with the phone… BB72’s true rom does have the grossoshop logo inside the phone information and supports OTAs!

However, thanks for your report, I’m more and more intrigued by this phone!

Lack of Sd Card expansion will play against this phone. Further the uncertainty regarding LeEco is another matter to make lots of Indians hesitate. Perhaps better to let the dust settle for a month before a buy decision. By then even Honor 6X and Redmi Note 4 will be in this arena.

I would try to uninstall all google play related apps, and then only installing Google Play. You should get a popup telling you to install Google Play Services ; this way you’ll probably get the right version installed on your phone.

If that doesn’t work out, try using the Xiaomi Google Play Services installer.
