Tri-Bezel-Less Elephone S8 Finally Revealed – Full Specifications

Elephone S8

After months from it’s first unveiling, the tri-bezel-less Elephone S8 is finally coming. The company has just released the full specifications, so here we have the five most important features: let’s have a look!

Elephone S8

Design

Other than the beautiful bezel-less display, the Elephone S8 will be entirely covered in what the company calls Lumia glass. Lumia glass is very similar to what we had on the Elephone S7 but it’s been improved a lot since then. The new Lumia glass will indeed curve around the back for a better feeling in the hand, plus it’s made with a manufacturing process which counts 7 more steps compared to the old Lumia. The S8 logo also has a new silver ink which will look better on the device.

Display

Obviously, the display is probably the best feature of the S8. It’ll be 6.0-inch and made by Sharp with a resolution of 2560*1440, making this the first tri-bezel-less smartphone with 2K resolution. The screen-to-body ratio will also be quite impressive at 92.4%.

Storage

The Elephone S8 will be equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which should be plenty enough for most users.

Camera

Elephone’s S8 is coming with a 21MP rear camera using a Sony IMX220 image sensor. This will allow you to capture really high resolution images which you can then crop while keeping most of the details.

Finally an Elephone that actually caught my attention. I’ll keep watching this space

  2. August 21, 2017

This monster phone is 80 mm wide. The Samsung Galaxy S8+ has a slightly larger display – 6.2 vs the Elephone’s 6 inches. The Samsung is 1.5 mm taller but it is only 73.4 mm wide compared to the Elephone at fully 80 mm in width. This phone follows in the footsteps of most of the recent bezel-free phones in being way too wide. This misses the point for me. Why reduce bezels unless you are going to make the phone narrower for greater ease of holding in one hand? I find this baffling. I would not buy the Elephone at any price because of it’s ridiculous width.

    • balcobomber25
      August 21, 2017

IMO, Having used the Mi Mix at 81mm, I never really found it to be too wide. In fact I really didn’t notice much difference between it and my RN4 which is 76mm.

      • August 21, 2017

Your comment misses my point. Regardless of what size you are comfortable with, bezel-free phones should IMO be narrower than bezel-full phones. Otherwise, what’s the point? Just a fashion statement. For me, the purpose of reducing bezels is to give us larger displays without making the phones harder to hold or use in one hand. If a bezel-free phone is just as wide or wider than one with bezels then the improvement is mainly cosmetic IMO.

You answered your own question partially.

“For me, the purpose of reducing bezels is to give us larger displays”. That’s exactly the point, you can now have a larger display in the same size enclosure. It’s not about making phones any narrower, it’s about maximizing the display area.

          • August 22, 2017

I disagree. I want both: larger display AND smaller form factor – shorter and narrower. Some phones are moving in the right direction: LG G6, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, the new Essential PH-1 and the new Sharp Aquos S2 – all of these phones have relatively large displays with less width than their bezel-full competitors. The Samsung S8 is a perfect example – it has a 5.8 inch display yet is only 68.1 mm wide – large display and less width than any other phone with such a large display. I wouldn’t buy one though – too expensive, which is why I find it disappointing that the Chinese OEM’s have so far given us bezel-free phones that are as wide as their bezel-full counterparts. They may look nice but don’t offer the same functional advantage as the Samsung S8.

I totally agree with you. The less wider it would be the more easier to operate with one hand.

            • balcobomber25
              August 22, 2017

You keep mentioning the Galaxy S8+ but it is wider, thicker, and taller than the Galaxy S7 Edge that is replaced:

              S8+: 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 mm
              S7E: 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm

Essential PH1 is smaller than the Mi Mix but there’s also some comprises you have to live with because of the smaller frame:

              Display – 5.71 in vs 6.4in
              Battery – 3040mAh vs 4400mAh
              Missing Headphone jack

Personally, I would prefer the bigger display and bigger battery. The missing headphone jack is big for some (not really for me). So it really comes down to personal preference.

            • August 22, 2017

In my last comment I focused on the dimensions of the Galaxy S8, only mentioning the S8+ in passing. However, even the rather larger S8+ is still only 73.4 mm wide, according to you, which is a lot less than the average 5.5 inch phone at 75 mm wide and way less than this Elephone wideboy at 80 mm wide. I wouldn’t mind a bezel-free 5.5 inch phone but it would have to be the width of an average 5 inch phone, i.e. not more than 68 mm. This is the width of the Galaxy S8 but it looks a bit odd being a bit overly long. But I wouldn’t be keen on a 5.5 inch bezel-free phone that was the same width as the average bezel-full phone – 75 mm. What would be the point of struggling to avoid launching apps accidentally on a bezel-free phone if it was the same width as most bezel-full phones? In these comments I am focusing on physical dimensions. Other features that you bring up are a different issue.

            • balcobomber25
              August 22, 2017

Where are you getting the 75mm average for 5.5 inch phones? And some of those other features I brought up are directly dependent on size. I am willing to have a wider phone if it means I have a bigger battery and a larger display.

    • Mamon Das
      August 21, 2017

I think for the side bezels, the wider the screen is the better it looks, a 6 inch borderless display reminds me the Phablets, but it’s great to hold that. It’s swaggy ?

“The S8 logo also has a new silver ink which will look better on the device.”

            – we know this how? We have a photoshopped image of the front and nothing else.

            – If past Elephones are any indication, it will be the worst feature. We don’t know until someone actually turns the phone on.

Finally you pleased me with a great news Tom, probably this is the first device from Elephone that is a global version as well as US version altogether.

Don’t hold your breath for a US version from Elephone.

Believe me or not, the specification part just impressed me a lot. I was thinking to get a new device and this seems to be attractive a lot. It’s better to wait for it.

I can say Elephone continues to send their employees here to post fake comments with private accounts. At least they are entertaining!

Such a joke, all you words have no clue. Then, I can say that you are the astroturfer of other brands.

Very nice phone, wait when it coming out. Nice looking, specs also good. If main camera like in P8 – it will be very good.

IMX220 camera sensor? Why? That sensor is from 2013. The P8 already used an IMX230

This is the only place you will see specs for a US phone with bands 4 and 17. Place your bets now on if it will really take place.
