The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL recently received the February security patch which led to some problems. Quite a few duets took to Google’s official product forums, Reddit to complain about the same. Most of the claims are surrounding the battery life and heating issues that have since popped up.
Quite a few users have claimed that the update has negatively affected the battery life if their phones. They asserted that the handset started getting warmer post update which was not the case before the patch was installed. A few users have also reported that their Pixel units are heating up even when on standby. These probelms were prevalent even when the smartphone was bitted to safe mode.
Although it seems like the patch is the culprit, it cannot be ascertained at this point whether the cause for all the problems is the same. Security patches are usually small in size catering to small bugs and fixes to the system. But this time, Google pushed out a heavier than usual patch. That is because this patch includes the software me at to enable the Pixel Visual Core, Google’s in house chip made for image processing. This chip is present on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Theoretically the Visual Core should save energy by diverting the image processing workload to itself from the main Snapdragon 835.
