May 31 is the most anticipated day right now for Xiaomi fans, and Xiaomi has already assured us we would be seeing the arrival of a plethora of products on the said date. We know for certain that the highlight of the event could be the launch of the flagship Xiaomi Mi 8, and while we are all excited about that, the latest news from India suggests Xiaomi has an event already scheduled for June 7th where a new product would be announced for the India market.
We clearly have no clue as to what the company intends launching on the said date, Xiaomi’s twitter handle earlier this month posted a teaser video that indicates it will be unveiling a Selfie smartphone in New Delhi on June 7. And if our guess is right, the device might be the Xiaomi Redmi S2 which was introduced in China last week. There are indications that the Redmi S2 might be introduced to the Indian market as the Redmi Y2 since this looks like the successor of last year’s Redmi Y1.

Xiaomi says the Redmi S2 is its best Redmi device for selfies ever. It comes fitted with a 16MP front shooter with 2μm pixel size, face unlock, LED flash, AI portrait mode and an AI beauty mode. The AI algorithm according to Xiaomi does a great job at distinguishing subject and background, resulting in great selfies. Also, the AI beauty mode is capable of highlighting the right facial areas by detecting makeup. On the flip side, the Redmi S2 uses a 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25μm pixel size, PDAF and a secondary 5MP rear camera.
