Xiaomi Mi A1 Updated to Android 8.1, Brings a Bit of Trouble

Xiaomi Mi 6X

Xiaomi Mi A1, the Chinese phone maker’s only phone under the Android One program is getting the Android 8.1 Oreo. While the update comes with quite a few improvements, it does bring some bugs with it too.

Although the official change-log is not available, a user that received the update has compiled a Pros and Cons list. The update brings the Mi A1 closer to the Pixel phones. A different power menu is in tow along with adaptive light and dark theme according to the wallpaper. The launcher has been updated, The audio quality has also received a boost.

A major bug that has been reported is the complete wiping of the SMS history after the update. The bug has been reported by quite a few users. Other than that, there’s the lack of Project Treble support which is quite heartbreaking. Other drawbacks include minor changes here and there.

If you want your old SMS history to stay intact, you might not want to update your A1 to Android 8.1. Since the Mi A2 is expected to launch soon, Xiaomi will probably try to fix all these issues before it hits the market. Nothing can be said for sure, so stay tuned!
