ZTE Corporation a major international provider of telecommunications, has today just announced that it will be launching the upcoming ZTE Axon 20 5G in China on September 1, 2020. The device will be the world’s first mass-produced 5G smartphone featuring an under-display camera. The smartphone’s information had been leaked on multiple happenings, but there was no official confirmation about it. That changes today. ZTE has now validated the existence of the device by publishing its launch date.
Previously, ZTE’s President for Mobile Devices Ni Fei; first approved that ZTE will be the world’s first smartphone brand to; announce a smartphone with game-changing under-display camera technology. From SRRC and TENAA certifications, it is revealed that the model number of the upcoming smartphone is ZTE A2121. As, ZTE 2020 debuted as an Axon series phone called ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G; it appeared that the ZTE A2121 could be an Axon series handset. The Weibo post through which Fei confirmed the smartphone revealed that it could be called ‘ZTE A20 5G.’
ZTE Axon 20 Expected Specifications
From TENAA, it is revealed that the ZTE Axon A20 5G has dimensions measuring 172.1 x 77.9 x 7.9mm. The smartphone is fitted with a 1080 x 2460 pixels Full HD+ resolution display supporting screen size of 6.92 inches. As the USP of the phone goes, there is no selfie camera notch or punch-hole on the display; instead, the 32-megapixel front-facing camera is implanted under the display sitting behind the screen.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an anonymous 2.4GHz octa-core chipset; which may be coupled with 6 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB RAM alongside 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage models in China. The phone runs on Android 10 OS. For the optics, The Axon 20 5G will be boasting a 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad-camera array. It is supported by a rated battery of 4,120mAh and with support for rapid charging.

In July, Visionex had confirmed that it has already started mass-producing the under-display camera; and smartphones featuring it will be arriving soon. So, ZTE is more likely to use the same sensor mass-produced by Visionex. Smartphone manufacturing giants such as Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and more; are all said to be working on the under-display camera solution; but ZTE would be the first to bring it to the general consumers.

The smartphone boasts a large 6.47-inch AMOLED flexible curved display with a waterdrop notch. With resolution topping at 2340 × 1080 px. In the camera department, the ZTE Axon 10s Pro packs a total of three rear cameras. These include a main 48MP sensor with f / 1.7 aperture; a secondary 20MP with ultra-wide-angle 125 °lens; and an 8MP telephoto lens. Meanwhile, at the front we find a 20MP selfie snapper. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset; packs in LPDDR5 RAM (up to 12GB), UFS 3.0 memory (up to 256GB) and more.
