Honor V40 to sport the DImensity 1000+ instead of Kirin 9000 SoC

Honor V40

Huawei’s situation on the software and hardware front thanks to the US ban seems to become more complicated every month. Now, the company is selling its Honor division. This certainly has to do with all the losses suffered by the company and all the uncertainties on its surroundings. According to a recent report, the deal is more than a mere legal shuffle. It will affect the products shipped by Honor. According to the so-called Digital Chat Station, a popular Chinese leakster, The Honor V40 Series will not use the Kirin 9000 chipset. The Dimensity 1000+ from MediaTek seems to be the most plausible substitute.

Back in the last year, Honor unveiled the Honor V30 and V30 Pro featuring the Kirin 990. That was HiSilicon’s top chip of 2019. This year, things got more complicated as the company lost access to TSMC which forced the closure of the HiSillicon Kirin division. Apparently, the Huawei Mate 40 series is the last smartphone series featuring a Kirin chipset as the company had to ensure the whole supply of 5nm-based Kirin 9000 chips for it. The company produced a few million units of these chipsets and it can’t afford to risk it in more smartphones. It can’t produce more of these chipsets, and if it gets out of stock, Huawei will not be able to ship more Mate 40 handsets.

Gizchina News of the week

Huawei V40 to come with MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset

For the upcoming Honor V40, the most plausible route to follow seems to be MediaTek’s one. According to some reports, the new flagship will pick the Dimensity 1000+ which is a powerful chipset with flagship-grade performance. It also is more affordable than Qualcomm counterparts and brings 5G connectivity straight out of the box. Worth noting that MediaTek is already working on its first 6nm chipset, the MT6839, but it won’t be ready by the Honor V40 release.

Rumors state that Honor V40 will go official alongside its Pro sibling in Mid-December. Earlier rumors were pointing to the use of Kirin 9000, but those plans seem to have changed. Especially now, those rumors are pointing to the Kirin 9000 presence in the next year’s Huawei P50 series. Of course, everything is based on rumors right now. The Honor V40 lineup is expected to go official with HarmonyOS. For now, it remains to be seen if Honor devices will go the HarmonyOS route and EMUI will be left for upcoming Huawei devices.

Now that's some news. Leaving in-house processors for Mediatek Dimensity ones shows how credible these Mediatek processors are.
