RedMagic Watch visits FCC and has its details exposed

RedMagic

Several months have passed since Nubia Watch was revealed. Now, with the lights turning around the RedMagic series, which is set to bring a new smartphone soon, the brand seems to be preparing a new smartwatch under the iconic gaming brand. While details are scarce about the highly-anticipated Red Magic 6, a new and unexpected, RedMagic Watch has passed by FCC certification. Thankfully, the certification website leaves just a little to the imagination. It confirms the wearable specifications, features, and design.

RedMagic Watch key specs

The RedMagic Watch sports model code SW2102 and has a circular design with two physical buttons on its right side. The device has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 454 x 454 pixels of resolution. This panel offers automatic brightness adjustment thanks to an integrated ambient light sensor.

Moving around to the back, the RedMagic Watch has charging pins and a heart rate sensor. This latter feature is basic in most smartwatches nowadays. Unfortunately, it does not seems to have a SpO2 sensor. This has become a standard on fitness bands and smartwatches since last year. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the SpO2 sensors have become vital since we can monitor the levels of oxygen in our blood. The worst cases of COVID-19 tend to compromise the breathing function, greatly reducing the levels of oxygen. So a smartwatch with a SpO2 sensor is a good way to monitor health.

Despite the lack of a SpO2 sensor, it comes with water resistance. According to FCC, the watch is 5ATM water-resistant. However, Nubia advises against using it in hot showers, hot springs, saunas, underwater diving, water skiing, and other “wading activities and deep water activities facing high-speed currents”.

Interestingly, the user manual which also appeared on FCC reveals some nice details. For instance, the watch will allow customization thanks to detachable straps. Nubia will sell leather and silicone options. The ones in the leaked images are made of silicone. So users will probably have to purchase leather straps separately. We also know that it will be just a matter of time until third-party sellers and manufacturers start to sell custom straps for this smartwatch.

A full-fledged smartwatch with GPS integrated

As far connectivity is concerned, the wearable brings Bluetooth 5.0 BLE which is compatible with Android 4.4 and above. Thankfully, the watch comes with GPS, GLONASS, and QZSS. So you will not have to carry a smartphone all the time to power these wearable functions. The wearable has an acceleration sensor, gyroscope, and a geomagnetic sensor. It draws power from a 420mAh battery which is a nice capacity for a smartwatch.

Considering that the device already passed by FCC certification, we believe that its launch is close.
