HarmonyOS will replace EMUI 11 on Huawei P40, Mate 40 and Mate X2 in April

HarmonyOS 2.0

According to rumors, the Huawei P50 was supposed to be the first smartphone of the company with the HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system instead of Android, but according to new data, this will not happen. All due to the fact that the premiere and release of the P50 has been postponed, but Huawei is not going to hesitate with the replacement of Android with HarmonyOS. Therefore, the first batch of models that will receive HarmonyOS 2.0 now looks like this. Huawei Mate X2, P40 and Mate 40 series. All of them will switch to the proprietary “Android replacement” in April. At the same time, a new Huawei TV with HarmonyOS 2.0 is expected.

As for other Huawei and Honor smartphones, those that received EMUI 11 and Magic UI 4.0 will switch to HarmonyOS before the end of the year, but in stages, depending on the SoCs. The only exception so far is the Honor V40. Some models with EMUI 10.1 and Magic UI 3.1 will be transferred to HarmonyOS directly; bypassing the intermediate stage in the form of EMUI 11 / Magic UI 4.0. These smartphones include Huawei nova 7 SE, Honor 30S, Honor X10, Honor 9X and a number of others. Alas, smartphones on MediaTek SoCs are not included in the current plans to transfer to HarmonyOS.

Huawei’s first smartphone with Harmony OS

Huawei P50

A few days ago, Huawei Technologies secured the right to use the Huawei P60, P70, P80, P90, and P100 trademarks. This indicates that the company is rather optimistic about the future and is not going to ditch the brand that it has built over the years so easily.

Recall that since last year, Huawei has not been able to freely purchase SoCs and other components from American companies. Manufacturers who want to do business with Huawei have to obtain a license; but it does not allow shipping all the necessary components. As such, the upcoming Huawei P50 lineup will use last year’s Kirin 9000 SoC.

It is expected that the Huawei P50 smartphone will be the first device out of the box to run the new operating system Hongmeng OS, or Harmony OS, as it is called outside of China. Also due to debut in this smartphone is the Sony IMX800 image sensor; which will be the world’s first mobile 1″ optical format sensor.

According to the latest reports, the presentation of Huawei P50 has been postponed to May this year.
