ARC has
officially entered the handheld gaming market with the ARC X1, a new Android-based gaming device built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 platform. It combines a 7-inch 120Hz display, dedicated gaming controls, active cooling and a huge 9,300mAh battery.
The ARC X1 has been developed over 16 months with input from the company’s gaming community. It also introduces OwlOS, a custom Android-based operating system designed around controller input rather than the usual touchscreen Android interface.

Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and active cooling
The ARC X1 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 Gaming Platform, built on a 4nm process. It features an 8-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno A22 GPU, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 8,533 MT/s.
Storage is limited to 128GB of UFS 3.1, but users can add up to 1TB through the microSDXC slot.
ARC has also fitted the X1 with an active cooling system. A centrifugal fan pulls air through the rear vents and pushes hot air out through the top. Performance profiles allow users to choose between performance, thermals, fan noise and battery life.
For me, this is one of the more important parts of the X1. A handheld can have good hardware on paper, but sustained performance matters much more when you are playing for an hour or two.
7-inch 120Hz display and dedicated controls
The X1 features a 7-inch Full HD LTPS TFT LCD panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of typical brightness. ARC claims around 100% sRGB coverage, while Gorilla Glass 3 protects the display.
The controls are also clearly designed with long-term gaming in mind. The X1 uses TMR analog sticks, Hall-effect triggers with mechanical locks, microswitch ABXY buttons and a microswitch D-pad.
There are also two programmable rear buttons, built-in stick calibration and per-game controller mapping. Dual LRA haptics are included for more precise vibration feedback.
OwlOS is designed specifically for handheld gaming
ARC X1 runs OwlOS, an AOSP-based operating system created around controller navigation. It combines native Android games, cloud gaming and emulation through a unified game library and launcher.
The software also includes per-game performance profiles, controller mapping, resolution scaling, an FPS overlay, custom fan curves and Quick Resume.
I think OwlOS could become one of the most interesting parts of the X1 if ARC keeps developing it. A clean interface made specifically for handheld gaming can make a bigger difference than another small hardware upgrade.
9,300mAh battery and repairable design
The ARC X1 packs a 9,300mAh battery with 27W USB-PD charging. ARC claims more than eight hours of battery life in Silent Mode, although actual endurance will depend on the game, brightness and performance settings.
There is also an 80% charging limit to help reduce battery wear over time.
The company has taken an interesting approach to repairability as well. The battery and joystick modules are replaceable, while modular daughterboards are designed to make servicing easier.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, USB-C 3.1 with display output, USB OTG and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device weighs between 450 and 500 grams.
ARC X1 price and availability
Early Access for the ARC X1 starts on October 2. Members of the ARC
early waitlist community can buy it for ₹29,500, while the regular retail price is ₹33,500.
At that price, the X1 enters a competitive handheld market, but its combination of a large battery, 120Hz display, TMR sticks, active cooling and controller-focused software makes it worth watching. The real test will come when the first units reach gamers and we can see how well the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 performs during longer sessions.
