LG Velvet 5G UW from Verizon is getting Android 11 update at last

LG Velvet

LG Mobile may be gone and we will not see new products coming after the July 31st deadline. However, last year, the company has made some of its last attempts to stay relevant in the smartphone market. It ditched its LG G series in favor of a new premium mid-range series dubbed LG Velvet. The original device came with a mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipset and was available in a plethora of markets across the world. Throughout the year, the brand unveiled a 4G LTE version that was the most controversial one, after all, it packed the Snapdragon 845 from 2018. The brand also unveiled a Dimensity 800U variant for certain carriers in the United States. The brand is working hard to bring Android 11 updates to most of these variants. Today, the Snapdragon 765-powered LG Velvet 5G UW variant from Verizon is getting the long-waited update in the United States.

LG Velvet 5G UW is getting an Android 11 update with new UI changes

Interestingly, the original LG Velvet 5G received the Android 11 update in South Korea in January. It’s not a big surprise to see LG deploying updates in its home market first. Now, almost four months later, the users of the LG Velvet 5G UW Verizon’s locked version are getting a taste of the latest Android version. The new firmware comes with version number G900VM20a and includes March 2021 Android Security patch (someone please hand a calendar to Verizon). The new firmware also brings a bunch of UI enhancements for LG UX. Of course, the goodies introduced by Google are present in this update. Android 11 introduces one-time permission for apps, chat bubbles, revamped notification, new media controls, and more.

Worth noting that this update is rolling out in a gradual manner. For that reason, it may take a couple of days to reach all eligible units. However, you can try your luck by heading to Settings >> About Phone >> Software updates menu of your smartphone.

The LG Velvet reached the market with Android 10 and LG UX running on top. Now, it is getting an Android 11 update, and according to LG, it is also eligible for a future Android 12 update. This week, the company further committed to bringing newer updates for its recent smartphones. Some of the recent flagships will receive Android 12 and possibly Android 13. Hopefully, this will be the case with the LG Velvet. The question is whether all variants will get the same treatment or just the Snapdragon 765G variant will be considered.
