A mysterious Chinese brand is preparing a new compact flagship with 5.9-inch display and Snapdragon 888

Compact Flagship

Many years have passed since the last smartphones with 5-inch and 4-inch displays. Many companies are sticking nowadays with smartphones offering displays bigger than 6.2-inch. The recently released Meizu 18 and Galaxy S21 are some of the best choices for lovers of compact smartphones due to their 6.2-inch panels. The Sony Xperia 5 III is also another option due to its 6.1-inch display. Asus is coming soon for this segment with a new ASUS ZenFone 8 mini, but according to a new leak, there is another Chinese smartphone coming with a display that is even smaller than the ones mentioned above. The new compact flagship is coming to be a relevant choice in this niche.

The source of the information is the Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station. In a Weibo post made yesterday, he confirmed that the Meizu 18 has a competition on the way from another Chinese manufacturer. He didn’t reveal the name of the smartphone maker, he did share the specifications of a prototype. He also shared these tidbits on Twitter as you can see below.

The unknown smartphone has a 5.9-inch AMOLED display with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels of resolution. It will be behind the Meizu 18 in terms of resolution since the Meizu smartphone offers a QHD+ resolution even on its small form fact. However, the mysterious smartphone will still offer a high 120Hz refresh rate. There is no mention of the design of the screen, so we can’t say if it has a punch-hole panel or if it is flat or curved. Of course, display size helps but it’s not everything on compact smartphones. Old smartphones had small display diagonals but were as big as current smartphones with 6-inch displays. The size also depends on the bezels and other aspects.

The Meizu 18 ships with a compact 6.2-inch QHD+ display

The handset will be a flagship since it will carry the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. Moreover, it will come with an LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 Internal Storage. He didn’t confirm the number of cameras in this smartphone, but the main sensor is a 64MP module. We expect at least two cameras and up to four cameras in the best-case scenario. The phone draws power from a 4,000mAh battery capacity and will come with 65W fast charging. It will probably carry Android 11 straight out of the box.

These specifications easily make this compact flagship relevant in the market. Of course, we still need to take the price in consideration. Moreover, the name of the brand behind it will certainly be a determining factor for customers. We suggest you digest this mysterious compact phone with a pinch or two of salt. After all, not even the company behind it can be confirmed right now.
