ASUS ZenFone 8 will bring back this missed feature

ZenFone 8

ASUS took its ROG Phone 5 to the first quarter of 2021 to compete with the likes of Red Magic and Black Shark. In the same way, the company will not skip competition with the H1 2021 flagships and will reveal its Asus ZenFone 8 series as soon as the next month. According to recent reports, the lineup includes the ZenFone 8, ZenFone 8 Pro, ZenFone 8 mini, and a yet-to-be-confirmed ZenFone 8 Flip. For now, we will have to work with just the three confirmed devices. The new devices are said to ditch the flipping camera mechanism found in the ZenFone 6 and 7 series. ASUS will stick with a conventional camera arrangement and will introduce a punch-hole on the handsets’ displays. Not everything is lost as the company will bring back a particular feature.

Nowadays, most companies are ditching the 3.5mm audio jack on flagships. So far, this is a feature that is more present among mid-range smartphones. When a company launches a flagship sporting it, it’s amazing since it differs from the big majority of mainstream flagships. ASUS was a long supporter of the 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card. However, the company decided to ditch it with the last year’s ZenFone 7 series. As per a new teaser, the feature will not be missed by ZenFone 8, 8 mini, and ZenFone 8 Pro owners since it is coming back.

Gizchina News of the week

ASUS will bring the 3.5mm headphone jack on the ZenFone 8 series.

A couple of days ago, ASUS shared a teaser on Twitter giving us a sneak peek at the design of the smartphones in the lineup. The teaser confirmed a punch-hole display. Now, the company has shared yet another teaser on Twitter, which confirms that the headphone jack will be making a comeback on the ZenFone 8 series. According to the company, it had to remove the audio jack from the ZenFone 7 series to the lack of PCB space. If you recall, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865’s Snapdragon X55 model wasn’t integrated into the SoC. Now, however, the company has enough space since the Snapdragon 888 has an integrated modem. So it is giving back what users want. The company may also keep the microSD card slot on its smartphones, which can make these devices the only ones in the category with this feature.

While the standard smartphones’ specifications are not yet known, the ZenFone 8 mini had some of its key specs revealed. The device will come with a 5.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED display and Snapdragon 888 in tow. The other devices will have larger screens but will pack the same chipset. Of course, none of the three will pack the flip-camera mechanism. This is something left for a rumored variant called ZenFone 8 Flip.

The ZenFone 8 Flip variant surfaced in a list of unreleased smartphones that escaped Google’s servers. As the name suggests, this might be the only variant of keeping the flipping camera system. Hence, it will have a full-screen design, something that the others will not achieve with a punch-hole selfie.

The new Asus ZenFone 8 series will be revealed fully on May 12
