HarmonyOS to adapt to Qualcomm’s platform

After the ban on Huawei two years ago, the company had to announce its own operating system. This system started off as a joke but it is getting more attention every day. As of now, HarmonyOS is the third-largest mobile operating system behind Android and iOS. Well, it is far behind Android and iOS. As of now, this system is currently in testing and the user feedback is quite impressive. From the speculations so far, Huawei will commence a large-scale rollout of this update in June. Huawei’s flagship series like Mate 40, Mate 30, P40, Mate X2, and others will be the first to get this update.

Although there are reports that other manufacturers will use this system, none have publicly confirmed their interest. So far, only Meizu has given a hint that it may use Huawei’s HarmonyOS. However, it appears that Huawei and Qualcomm are working together to ensure that HarmonyOS is compatible with Qualcomm’s platform. The leak from popular Weibo leakster @DCS claims that HMS plans to adopt Qualcomm’s platform. He further said that the goal of Huawei is very big. However, he has now deleted the post which cast some doubt on the authenticity of the claim.

HarmonyOS stable version may start rolling out in June

As of now, some users already have the developers beta of the HarmonyOS 2.0. In fact, there are already videos of the performance of this system online. Many beta testers agree that HarmonyOS is more fluid than the Android-based EMUI 11. Furthermore, there are reports that HarmonyOS 2.0 saves more memory both in terms of RAM and internal storage. This means that this system will better serve devices with small RAM and internal storage capacity.

In March of this year, Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei’s consumer business software department and head of HarmonyOS, said that the number of IoT devices such as cars, tablets, watches, smart screens, speakers, and others to use the HarmonyOS will hit 300 million this year. The company plans that in 2021, over 200 million Huawei smartphones will run on HarmonyOS.

In terms of software partners, Huawei hopes to cooperate with the top 200 developers in the Chinese application market. These developers will develop applications for the HarmonyOS system. According to the company, about 70% of them have now confirmed that they will cooperate with Huawei.

No doubt, HarmonyOS is still a far cry from the likes of Android and iOS. However, its progress is smooth and it is getting more attention every day. Do you think HarmonyOS will make a significant impact in the market? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below
