Oppo’s under-screen camera promises a “perfect” display & image effect

The latest solution for a true full-screen smartphone is the under-display camera technology. As of now, only one company has successfully mass-produced this technology. The ZTE Axon 20 comes with under-screen camera technology and it has been in the market for some time. However, it appears that at least four other models will join this device. We expect the ZTE Axon 30, Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, and an Oppo flagship to use this technology this year. It is important to note that the under-screen camera technology either makes the display or camera effect poor. This is why many manufacturers have not released this technology yet. However, Oppo claims that its next-generation under-screen camera technology is “perfect”.

According to the company, the next-generation under-screen camera technology achieves both screen display and image effects. We know that the under-screen camera technology allows the front camera to be hidden under the screen. The side effect is that there will be a certain amount of light loss when the light passes through the screen and enters the front camera. Even after technical processing, the pixel structure of the screen still reduces the available illuminance. This will have some impact on details and colours, or make the image blurry, resulting in unsatisfactory self-portrait effects.

Oppo Find X3 may launch this technology

The official Oppo poster means that Oppo has solved the industry problem of under-screen cameras affecting selfies. We will have to wait for the official announcement to get the details of this technology. It is worth noting that in June 2019, Oppo demonstrated the under-screen camera technology. At that time, Oppo conducted three technical pieces of research, including customized camera modules, customized transparent materials with higher light transmittance, and targeted adjustment of white balance algorithms. After a two-year lapse, Oppo will bring a new generation of under-screen camera solutions.

Oppo’s under-screen camera technology is likely to premier on the Find X3. We expect this smartphone to hit the market in the first quarter of this year. Oppo’s CEO, Chen Mingyong, has previously revealed that Find X3 is Oppo’s flagship ‘idea for ten years’ and a key product for the company’s high-end breakthrough. If there is the addition of under-screen camera technology, it will undoubtedly be more attractive.

Apart from this, we have heard that the Oppo Find X3 will also use the Snapdragon 888 processor. Its AnTuTu running score is as high as 770K. At the same time, there are reports that the Find X3 may also come with a 3K+ high refresh rate screen. This phone will also bring the first full-link color management system and a dual-camera solution for imaging. The ultra-wide-angle lens will be a custom Sony sensor. The overall strength is expected to be excellent.
