TikTok launches Samsung, LG, and Android TV platforms


Chinese short video app, TikTok has been expanding into the TV field over the past few months. It has previously launched a TV application on the Amazon Fire TV platform. Recently, TikTok has expanded this range to Samsung, LG, and Android TV platforms.

“The TikTok TV app is designed for the TV home viewing experience, allowing users to easily watch the content in “For You (Recommended)” and “Following” on the big screen. From games and comedies to food, animals and other categories, users can see the most popular and watched videos”.

Users can log in to the TikTok TV application with their existing accounts. There is also a “discovery” page that allows users to find more favorite content, creators, and categories on TikTok. The short video app had more than 1 billion monthly active users in September. In the United States, the average viewing time of TikTok on the Android platform has surpassed that of YouTube.

TikTok launches app for 2020 and 2021 LG smart TVs

Last month, South Korean smart TV manufacturing giant, LG, announced that its 2020 and 2021 smart TVs will have TikTok. LG smart TVs with webOS 5.0 and webOS 6.0 already have this application. The update started rolling out to these models on October 7th. However, 2019 LG smart TVs and older models will get this update in the coming months. The company did not give a specific timeline for these old models to get the update.

As of now, there is no official information from LG or TikTok regarding which regions have the update. However, Samsung TV, Android TV, and Fire TV can use this application in the UK, France, and Germany. There are suggestions that these regions will also be the first to get the TikTok app for LG smart TVs.

Tiktok has over a billion users every month

A few days ago, Tiktok announced today that more than 1 billion people use the app every month. Bytedance launched TikTok in May 2017 and invested hundreds of millions of dollars to enter foreign markets. Later, Bytedance spent $1 billion to acquire musical.ly, a similar product in North America, in November 2017. This further established Tiktok’s dominant position in the global market. Previously, Sensor Tower data showed that TikTok had 3 billion downloads worldwide, making it the first non-Facebook app to achieve this. It’s thank you message partly reads
