iPhone 20 Pro Could Get a Much Bigger Screen and Almost No Bezels

Apple may be planning one of its biggest iPhone screen changes in years. A new leak gives us early details about the displays being tested for the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max.

According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 20 Pro is being tested with a 6.41-inch display and a resolution of 2686 × 1236 pixels. The iPhone 20 Pro Max could get a 6.96-inch display with a resolution of 2912 × 1340 pixels.

These numbers are only for early test devices. Apple can still change them before the phones reach the market.

The more interesting part of the leak is the screen design I guess. Apple is reportedly testing a quad-curved display for the iPhone 20 Pro models. The glass would curve slightly on all four sides. The goal is to make the black borders look much smaller.

This does not mean Apple will bring back the deep curved screens we saw on some older Android phones. The curve is expected to be very small. Special glass could also help create the effect of a screen that reaches almost all the way to the frame.

I think this is much more interesting than simply adding another 0.1 inch to the display. The current iPhone already has very small bezels. Making them almost disappear could give the iPhone 20 Pro a very different look.

The reported 6.96-inch display on the Pro Max is also worth noting. The current iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display. Its actual panel size is said to be around 6.86 inches, so Apple may be able to market the new panel as a 7-inch display if the current plans remain unchanged.

The smaller Pro model could also grow from 6.3 inches to 6.41 inches.

That is not a huge increase. More of the extra screen space may come from the thinner bezels rather than a much larger phone.

The front of the phone could receive another major change. Digital Chat Station says Apple is testing a smaller display cutout. In practice, this could mean a much smaller Dynamic Island.

Apple has been working on moving more Face ID hardware under the display. However, it is not clear if that technology will be ready for the 2027 iPhone. For now, the leaked information points to a smaller cutout rather than a completely hole-free screen.

That would still be a big visual improvement in my opinion. After all, a smaller Dynamic Island, thinner bezels and slightly curved glass could make the front of the iPhone look much cleaner.

The same leak claims Apple may skip the iPhone 19 name and move directly to the iPhone 20 in 2027. That would match the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone.

Apple has not confirmed this naming plan, so it should still be treated as a rumor.

For me, the display is the part that matters more. Apple has been making small changes to the iPhone design for several generations. A near-borderless screen with a smaller Dynamic Island would finally make the 20th-anniversary model look different from the current iPhone.

The iPhone 20 Pro is still a long way from launch, though. These are early testing details, and the final design could change before production begins. What do you think about though? Let us know in the comments below.
