Honor X30 launched with Snapdragon 690 and flagship-like design

After months of preparations, Honor started to bring back its popular lineups with the Honor 50 series. The devices were a big hit in China and also reached European markets. Then, in October, the brand brought up the Honor X30i and Honor X30 Max that marked the start and also the continuity of the legendary Honor X-series. Now, as a last-minute launch for 2021, the brand is bringing the Honor X30 to the Chinese market. The new mid-range smartphone comes with compelling specifications, a brand new Qualcomm chipset, and a fancy design that easily makes you believe it’s a flagship.

Honor X30 specifications

The Honor X30 arrives alongside the Honor X30 Play, but it’s more capable than its sibling. For instance, we have a gorgeous and massive 6.8-inch IPS LCD screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It boasts a 2,388 x 1,080 pixels resolution and has a centered punch-hole. The renders suggest a device with minimalistic bezels, but we’ll have to wait for official hands-on to know if that is really the case. After all, reducing the bezels of an LCD isn’t an easy task.

Under the hood, the Honor X30 packs the recently released Qualcomm Snapdragon 695. This platform is made on the 6 nm standard and brings 5G connectivity. The phone starts with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and the other variant doubles everything with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Internal Storage. The Honor X30 draws its powers from a 4,500 mAh battery that has 66W fast-charging support.

In terms of optics, the Honor X30 brings a 48 MP primary camera alongside a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth helper. Despite the fancy look, we can say that this setup is too simple, and the phone deserved something better like, at least, an ultrawide camera. The camera is inspired by the Honor Magic 3 series, but it just looks better than it really is. There is also a tiny punch hole cutout centered below the earpiece housing a 16 MP selfie shooter.

The handset boots Honor’s Magic UI 5.0 on top of Android 11 and arrives in four colorways – Black, Silver, Gold, and Blue. There is no word for Android 12, but we may see an update coming in the next year. After all, Honor can free use Android and update it in counterpart to its former parent company.

Pricing and Availability

The Honor X30 costs CNY 1,499 ($235) for the base model with 6 GB / 128 GB configuration. The high-tier model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB goes up to CNY 2,299 ($361). Official sales will open on December 24. So far, the device is only available in China, and Honor didn’t disclose availability details.
