Twitter confirmed problems with access to the service form Russia

“We’re aware that Twitter is being restricted for some people in Russia and are working to keep our service safe and accessible.” the official account of the social network said in a message.

Prior to this, on Friday, it became known that Roskomnadzor had introduced partial restrictions on Facebook, owned by Meta, in Russia due to the blocking by the American social network of official accounts of Russian media, including the Zvezda TV channel, as well as RIA Novosti, Lenta.ru and Gazeta.ru. In response, Facebook banned Russian state-owned media from placing ads on the social network and monetizing it worldwide.

In Russia, there were problems in social networks

Russians began to send numerous complaints about the work of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram services. The first failures in the work of Twitter were recorded on February 26 at about 12:40 Moscow time. About an hour later, there were reports of problems with Facebook and Instagram. There have been no official messages from the platform administrations yet.

According to the Downdetector service, which monitors the operation of web resources, Twitter has ceased to open for many users from Russia. By 13:01 Moscow time, TASS reports , the service recorded 1060 complaints about the operation of the microblogging service from Russians. Note that the real number of cases should be much higher – not everyone leaves complaints about Downdetector. About 59% of users who left complaints noted problems with the operation of the web version of the platform; 37% reported that the application was unstable, and another 4% were unable to send comments.

It is noteworthy that some of the users of the social network were able to open Twitter by connecting to the Web via a VPN. In other countries, there are no problems with the operation of the service. The causes of the large-scale failure remain unknown; Neither Roskomnadzor nor the platform administration have yet commented on the situation.

Also, around 13:30 Moscow time, reports began to come in about problems with Facebook and Instagram in Russia. Users report being unable to access the platforms through the official apps (56% of complaints on Facebook and 83% on Instagram) and the web version (6% for Facebook and 7% for Instagram).
