Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 battery – why is it so disappointing

Galaxy Z Flip 4

According to reports, South Korean manufacturing giant, Samsung will release the flagship Galaxy Z Flip4 with a vertical folding screen in the second half of this year. The speculations so far reveal that the model number of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 model is SM-F721. This device comes with two batteries inside the fuselage. The models are EB-BF721ABY and EB-BF722ABY. One has a capacity of 2400 mAh and the other has a capacity of 903 mAh. This means that the total battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is about 3400 mAh. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 comes with a 3300 mAh battery. This reveals that the Z Flip4 battery is only 100 mAh more than the previous generation Galaxy Z Flip3.

To say the least, this capacity is disappointing. For a foldable smartphone, it is very disappointing. A full review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 reveals that the battery is one of its major shortcomings. The review also reveals that this device can not be used for a day even under light usage. Ordinarily, everyone will expect that its successor, Samsung Galaxy Flip4, will upgrade the battery. However, a 100 mAh battery increment is no upgrade. In fact, the battery will probably perform worse than the Z Flip3.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 incident is old but not obsolete

So, the question is, why is Samsung not paying much attention to the battery of its flip smartphones? Even with the terrible review of the Z Flip3 battery, the Z Flip4 is not better. What could be going on in Samsung’s head? This should not entirely be a surprise because, since the Galaxy Note 7 incident, the company has been very careful with batteries. Recall that back in 2016, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 went on an exploding spree. Even as we speak, there are still some pending court cases especially in China with regards to the 2016 exploding event. Some buyers at the time are also initiating new cases even if Samsung had to recall the device at the time at a great loss.

There are reports that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 will be more efficient in terms of power consumption. In addition to Software optimization, this device will also use an LTPO display. Of course, the LTPO display consumes less power.

In terms of core configuration, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus flagship processor. This chip is based on TSMC’s 4nm process and it still uses the “1+3+4” three-cluster architecture design. The super core is Cortex X2 which has a powerful performance.
