iPhone 6 joins Apple’s list of outdated devices

The iPhone 6 now enters Apple’s list of “vintage” devices. Which comprises all handsets that will no longer receive any kind of software updates from the company. Almost 8 years after its release.

It is now the time of the original iPhone 6 to join Apple’s list of supposedly vintage gadgets, following the iPhone 5 in 2018 and more recently, the iPhone 6 Plus at the start of 2022. The bigger “Plus” model of an iPhone was first made available by Apple with the release of the iPhone 6 range. Instead of the flat edges of the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5s we got a brand-new, curved edge design. Which was another characteristic of the device.

Originally released in 2014, Apple eventually relaunched its device in 2017 as a mid-range iPhone, like today’s iPhone SE 5G. We therefore expect that it would join the list of vintage devices, since it was available long ago.

Since the iPhone 6 is now a vintage product, repairs will depend on supplies. Up to 7 years after the product’s last release, Apple will still accept repairs, but only if the necessary components are still available.

The iPhone 6 will be part of the group of supposedly “obsolete” gadgets in two years. With the exception of Mac laptops, which can still benefit from a battery repair, all hardware services are halted for them.

Along with the iPhone 6, we should note that Apple added the fifth-generation iPod touch. And the 2012 iPod nano 7 from the vintage product list to the obsolete product list. While the 2015 iPod nano models are now classified as vintage goods. The 2015 model of the fourth-generation iPod shuffle has replaced the discontinued product listing for the 2012 model. Apple also included the first MacBook Pro with Touch Bar on its list of antique products earlier this year. The iPhone 7 should be the following gadget to enter the list sometime early in the following year, however, we do not know the specific date yet.
