MWC 2023 preview: Here are the major highlights

MWC 2023

The MWC 2023 will be a special event because it will be the first physical event after the pandemic. This event will hold from February 27th to March 2nd in Barcelona, Spain. This is the first time after the epidemic that a large-scale global mobile ecosystem will gather together to discuss a new chapter of development. The theme of MWC 2023 is “Velocity – Unleashing Tomorrow’s Technology – Today”. This event will host global mobile brands, equipment brands, tech providers, and ecological/innovative enterprises. The main topics of discussion will be 5G new trends, IoT, open network (OpenNet), beyond reality + (Reality+) and other minor topics.

MWC 2023

Main Topics

1. 5G new trends – 5.5G is a major trend of focus

One of the major highlights of MWC 2023 will be 5.5G. This new 5G trend is a major aspect of focus, especially for Chinese brands. Yang Guang, a senior chief analyst at Omdia, said that 5G-Advanced is an intermediate step in the evolution to 6G. During MWC23, GSMA will hold a 5G-A summit, inviting operators such as China Mobile, Orange, and Zain. It will also invite equipment vendors such as Huawei and Ericsson. Also, there will be terminal ecosystem partners such as Qualcomm and NVIDIA. These brands will share and discuss 5.5G innovative practices and future plans.

At the same time, GSMA will join hands with relevant brands to promote the steady progress of the 5.5G industry. It will focus on tech evolution, app scenarios, and industrial ecology. China’s three major operators have always been in the first echelon in terms of 5.5G innovation practice. China Mobile’s dual-chain integration innovation plan, China Unicom’s three smart innovation tracks, and China Telecom’s super trilogy have all concluded in the past year. With fruitful results, more 5.5G innovations will be released during MWC23.

Qualcomm has just released the industry’s first 5G-Advanced ready Snapdragon X75 modem and radio frequency system. It can support 10-carrier aggregation and achieve a 10Gbps ultimate user experience. Devices with this chip will hit the public in the second half of this year.

2. Network energy saving scheme

With green energy saving becoming the focus of the industry, network energy saving has also become the product solution that major companies will focus on displaying this time. The major players here are Huawei, ZTE and Ericsson.

Huawei

Huawei will release and showcase ten wireless network products and solutions with excellent performance and energy saving. This includes

  • MetaAAU, the industry’s largest bandwidth of 800MHz MetaAAU
  • Super light macro station M-MIMO
  • High integration Meta BladeAAU
  • Low energy consumption super Broadband 4T4R RRU
  • Strong performance ultra-wideband 8T8R RRU
  • Large-scale commercial FDD MM
  • Huawei’s unique signal direct feed technology (SDIF)
  • a new generation of microwave MAGICSwave products
  • Huawei IntelligentRAN

ZTE

ZTE will present ten innovative wireless products and solutions to help operators build a 5G network with full-band integration and “new growth of 5G” with a minimalist architecture, strong performance, and extremely efficient energy saving. More dynamic RIS expands 5G coverage and builds a lower-cost, green and low-carbon 5G-A network.

Gizchina News of the week

Ericsson

Ericsson recently released an enhanced radio access network (RAN) and transmission (Transport) product portfolio. It not only meets the market’s demand for higher 5G capacity and revenue growth but also enables Ericsson to help operators achieve “net zero emissions”. Ericsson will showcase more than a dozen new solutions that can reduce carbon emissions. The tech can also reduce the base station footprint, improve energy efficiency, and increase network capacity.

3. Satellite fusion communication solutions

Satellite communication will be the highlight of this MWC 2023. During MWC 2023, MediaTek will showcase advanced techs from its portfolios (Dimensity, Filogic, Genio, Kompanio and Pentonic). It will also reveal 5G techs beyond mobile devices. At the same time, MediaTek will also showcase its satellite communication platform. There will also be devices from popular brands using these MediaTek techs.

OPPO will showcase its flagship mobile phone series including the OPPO Find N2 series, brand-new network connection products, and innovative IoT techs. It will also announce future plans in terms of corporate sustainable development.

Honor will announce the Magic5 series of flagship phones including the Honor Magic5, Honor Magic5 Pro and Magic5 Ultimate Edition.

UNISOC will focus on displaying the first 5G smart cockpit chip platform A7870. It will also display a 4G car chip solution A7862, and an eight-core 4G car tech chip solution A8581. These products are currently entering the leading car group. In 2023 and in the future, UNISOC will further increase investment in automotive electronics.

TD Tech’s vision and mission is to become a global leader in connectivity solutions. In this exhibition, TD Tech will focus on the three main sectors of a smart city, smart industry and smart life.

4. New OpenRAN solutions

AMD will show the results of its collaboration with more than 15 radio system ecosystem partners. It uses AMD Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC and MPSoC to design O-RAN based remote radio units for open interfaces. AMD is focused on the rollout of 5G around the world, and the new AMD Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC offers excellent price/performance and energy efficiency. This makes it ideal for emerging markets around the world AMD and Nokia jointly announced the expansion of their work to help Communications Service Providers meet their energy efficiency targets. They will deliver RAN solutions to Nokia Cloud using 4th Gen AMD EPYC chip based servers.
