Play Anywhere: Microsoft’s Xbox Mobile Store Releasing in 2024

Microsoft Xbox Mobile Store

Microsoft Xbox mobile store for games is finally coming. Microsoft is planning to release this amazing new store as early as next year. The console gaming giant has made a great strategy to open new dimensions for itself. Phil Spencer, the Xbox chief, says that the company is looking forward to countering the growing dominance of other tech companies like Apple and Google.

Of course, both of these tech giants have already launched their mobile app stores. Microsoft feels compelled to follow suit. Phil Spencer believes that Microsoft wants to offer Xbox and partner content to Xbox users for whatever screen they prefer. Currently, the company is not able to offer content on mobile devices. Therefore, it plans to open up more options for users who want to play games on their mobile devices.

Microsoft Xbox Mobile Store Isn’t A New Thing In The Making…

Microsoft Xbox Mobile Store has been the long-awaited vision of Microsoft. The company hinted at its next-generation store last year, a month after announcing its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The company plans to compete with Google and Apple with games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Candy Crush Saga from Activision Blizzard.

These are among the most popular games on mobile OS. To play a dirty game, Microsoft will have to seek the help of regulators to restrict its competitors like Google and Apple. It will ultimately help the company to level the playing field for competition or dominance. It’s not easy to have competition on iOS and Apple devices, as Apple doesn’t allow anything other than its own creation.

In addition, Spotify and Microsoft may rest under the shadow of the EU’s Digital Markets Act. The companies hope that EU regulators will force Apple and Google to open their app stores to third-party apps and software. Needless to say, the Digital Markets Act is coming soon.

Spencer said,

“The Digital Markets Act that’s coming – those are the kinds of things we’re planning for. I think it’s a huge opportunity. Microsoft currently has no significant presence in mobile gaming, and the [Activision Blizzard] transaction will bring much-needed expertise in mobile game development, marketing, and advertising.”

Why Does Microsoft Need Help From EU Digital Market Act?

Microsoft has little to no presence in mobile gaming, and the company admitted this last year. As the last of the top tech companies, Microsoft is trying to broaden its horizons in mobile gaming. The company is quickly filling the space by offering Xbox Cloud Gaming on Valve’s Steam Deck. It is also partnering with Razer and Logitech for cloud gaming-focused handhelds.

To turn dreams into reality, the Xbox maker is relying heavily on the regulatory approval of its Activision Blizzard acquisition. In addition, the company faces regulatory scrutiny from the European Commission and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The European Union is most likely to approve the Microsoft acquisition; however, the FTC has sued to block the deal. The case is still in its early stages, and FTC lawyers are asking for a “next-generation gaming ecosystem” from Microsoft. This will help the FTC determine Microsoft’s intent in developing the Microsoft Xbox Game Store.
