The leak train regarding the iPhone 15 series is still going strong. In fact, the leaks have stepped up this year. Not only are we getting information about the soon-to-be-released lineup, but also about the iPhone 16 series that’s set to come out afterward. Nevertheless, the latest iPhone 15 Pro Max report brings some bad news.
Previous reports suggested that Apple will bring some exclusive upgrades to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But it seems that Apple wants to achieve that by keeping the same components as the last gen device. To fill you in, this year’s top-tier iPhone might retain the same camera and display as the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
It Seems Apple A17 Bionic Will Be the Primary Highlight of the iPhone 15 Pro Max
So, the new report comes from Revegnus, who is known to have a fairly good track record. According to the tipster, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will ship with the same primary sensor as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Previously, a rumor was making rounds that stated the device would sport a Sony Exmor IMX903.
But, as per Revegnus, Apple will stick with the IMX803 for the 15 Pro Max. It is the same 48MP sensor found in the last-gen device. So, it turns out that the Exmor IMX903 is now reserved for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. While you may view it as a cost-cutting measure, you need to understand that adding a new sensor is an easy deal.
Apple would need to optimize its software for the new sensor. After all, without software enhancements, a new sensor is nothing but a showpiece. But there’s a chance that Apple will work on the software side to enhance the IMX803 further in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
And if that is indeed the case, it would not be a flawed approach. That is, the next top-tier phone could still have exclusive camera features with the same sensor as the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Revegnus has also shed light on the display that Apple is utilizing for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As per the report, the phone will retain the M12 panel found in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. But again, that’s not necessarily a piece of bad news for Apple fans. The M12 display has already been rated as the best smartphone display by DisplayMate.

And considering how well the iPhone 14 Pro Max performs against its competitors, it would be pointless to integrate a new display in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Of course, it would also help Apple keep the new device’s manufacturing cost low, which could be passed down to the consumers.
The Only Confirmed Exclusive Upgrade of the iPhone 15 Pro Max
So far, the only confirmed iPhone 15 Pro Max upgrade appears to be the chipset. And as reported earlier, the A17 Bionic SoC is currently being mass products with the 3nm process of TSMC. That means it will likely offer a good overall upgrade in terms of performance and battery life.

On another note, Revegnus says that the device will see a boost in terms of RAM capacity. The iPhone 14 Pro Max came with 6GB of RAM, which was more than enough for a device running the latest iOS. So, the 8GB LPDDR5 config of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will indeed be a sizeable upgrade. It will allow you to keep more apps open and multitask with ease.
There have also been reports regarding the phone coming with a periscope zoom lens before. But no new information regarding it has come out. We will keep you updated if we get any more concrete info.
