WhatsApp Channels: A New Way to Connect and Stay Informed Worldwide

These Channels enable admins to send one-way broadcasts to their followers, including text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. WhatsApp has opened its doors to thousands of organizations, sports teams, artists, and thought leaders that users can now follow directly within the app.

Channels are distinct from regular chats, and the identities of the channels users follow are not disclosed to other followers. WhatsApp prioritizes the protection of personal information for both channel admins and followers.

WhatsApp has made several updates to enhance the functionality of Channels:

  1. Enhanced Directory: Users can easily discover channels filtered by country. They can also view new, active, and popular channels based on follower count.
  2. Reactions: Users can express their feedback using emojis and see the total number of reactions. However, reactions remain private to the followers.
  3. Editing: Admins will soon have the ability to edit their updates for up to 30 days. After that period, the updates will be automatically deleted from WhatsApp servers.
  4. Forwarding: When users forward an update to chats or groups, the forwarded message includes a link back to the channel, allowing others to learn more.

Also, WhatsApp is committed to improving Channels based on user feedback. In the upcoming months, they will enable anyone to create their own channel.
