Xiaomi has officially released its latest mobile phone, the Xiaomi 14 Pro, which boasts several impressive features. This device is the top model in the Xiaomi 14 series, and it comes with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Xiaomi also added a new Dragon Crystal Glass to give the display an extra level of protection.

Display

The Xiaomi 14 Pro features a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for an immersive viewing experience. This display is protected by Xiaomi Longjing Glass, which is a type of Dragon Crystal glass. According to the company, this glass is more durable and scratch-resistant than regular glass.

At the launch event, Xiaomi announced that the Xiaomi 14 Pro screen supports its new “equal-depth micro-curved screen”. With this feature, when the screen is active, it looks like a straight screen, but it is in fact curved on all four sides. Lei Jun claims that the Xiaomi screen engineering team spent 2 years in pre-research. The company said it invested 18 times in R&D expenses and applied for 130+ patents to develop this screen.

The screen is curved on all four sides and also uses four-curved glass on the back. It has a 2K resolution (522 PPI), and Xiaomi claims it is “more outstanding than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.”

Lei Jun said that under normal circumstances, the screen is prone to cracks after arc bending. However, Xiaomi uses a 16.4 μm packaging layer and claims to use simulation modelling and stress analysis to build 1 million precision finite element meshes. This increases the elasticity by 1.5 times, making it more bendable and less breakable. In addition, this screen uses FIAA’s “in-pixel routing technology”. This adds a new metal layer and the signal lines are bundled within the screen. Below are the screen details of the Xiaomi 14 Pro

  • Size: 6.73 inches
  • Resolution: 3200 x 1440
  • PPI: 522 PPI
  • Color depth: 12bit
  • Peak brightness: 3000 nits
  • Instantaneous touch sampling rate: 2160Hz
  • Features: Support LTPO 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, DC dimming, P3 wide color gamut, Rheinland certification, support ambient color temperature sensing, ultra-dynamic display, AI automatic brightness

TCL on Xiaomi 14 Pro screen

TCL, which jointly developed this screen with Xiaomi, also had some good things to say about this display.  The company said that the Xiaomi 14/14 Pro “has achieved the improvement of small-size screen quality with its leading C8 luminescent material, LTPO technology, ultra-narrow bezel, ultra-high resolution, and other advantages, bringing users a small-screen experience full of surprises.” It added that the Xiaomi 14 small size “not only achieved a comprehensive qualitative leap in the quality of small-sized screens but also drove the Chinese screen industry to achieve a key leap forward.” In the future, TCL Huaxing says it will continue to explore displays with other brands.

The Xiaomi 14 comes with a single punch-hole screen, and with its small size, it can be easily held with one hand. This device also has ultra-narrow bezels and a straight screen design with equal width on three sides. No doubt, this design is eye-catching. The upper and both side bezels are only 0.9mm thick. However, the chin is 1.7mm.

Gizchina News of the week

With the support of C8 luminescent material, the peak brightness of Xiaomi 14 series mobile phone screens can reach 3000nit, which is also Xiaomi’s highest brightness screen to date. With ultra-high luminous efficiency, the power consumption of the Xiaomi 14 series is reduced by more than 17% compared to the previous generation. It achieves a double leap in brightness and power consumption. This is also the optimal power consumption in the current 1.5K screen that can achieve the full brightness range.

In terms of eye protection, the Xiaomi 14 Pro supports full DC dimming. This protects the eyes against potential harm, and the display has also passed the German TÜV Rheinland certification. It is a standard certificate that shows that the screen is safe to use and ensures eye protection for users.

Processor

The Xiaomi 14 Pro is the first mobile phone to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen3 processor, which is built on a 4nm manufacturing process. The processor is an octa-core CPU with one Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.3GHz, five Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 3.2GHz, and two Cortex-A520 cores clocked at 2.3GHz. The GPU is an Adreno 750, which provides excellent graphics performance. This device also comes with 12 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM as well as 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Camera

On the Xiaomi 14 Pro, the company uses a new sensor called the “Light Hunter 900″ with a proprietary Leica Summilux lens. The camera is a 50 MP 1/1.31” sensor with 1.2 m pixels and a dynamic range of 13.5 EV. The aperture on the bespoke 23 mm lens is variable, ranging from f/1.42 at its widest to f/4.0 when closed. The sensor is approximately 44% smaller than the 1-inch imager found in last year’s 13 Pro. However, this new lens is around 80% brighter.

In addition, this device comes with a 75 mm f/2.0 floating telephoto camera. This sensor looks similar to the one on the Xiaomi 13 Pro. It can capture 10 cm of close-up images. It can take ordinary shots at 40 MP and portrait photos at 50 MP. This device comes with another 50 MP f/2.2 14 mm ultrawide camera that supports 5 cm macro shooting. On the front, there is a 32MP shooter for selfies.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro also debuts a 1024-level variable aperture. This can better adjust the blur and exposure.

  • F / 1.42 ~ F / 4.0 Infinitely variable, bringing a brand new imaging experience:
  • f/1.42: Excellent background blur, creating dreamy light spots,
  • f/4.0: Clearly magnify every detail and capture dazzling starbursts.

In addition, the Xiaomi 14 Pro is equipped with a professional street photography mode that supports a 4-stop variable aperture.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro is equipped with a 4880mAh non-removable battery that supports 120W wired fast charging, PD3.0, QC4, and 50W wireless fast charging. The battery can be charged to 100% in just 18 minutes with the wired charger and 40 minutes with the wireless charger. The phone also supports 10W reverse wireless charging.

Other Features

The Xiaomi 14 Pro runs on Android 14 with the HyperOS user interface. The phone is IP68 dust- and water-resistant and has a fingerprint sensor under the display. It also has several other sensors, including an accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyro, compass, barometer, and colour spectrum.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi 14 Pro is an impressive mobile phone that boasts several high-end features. Its Snapdragon 8 Gen3 processor, Dragon Crystal glass, and 120W fast charging make it stand out from other phones on the market. The triple-camera setup and 32MP front-facing camera also make it an excellent choice for photography enthusiasts. Overall, the Xiaomi 14 Pro is a great option for anyone looking for a high-end mobile phone.

I hope hyperOS allows users to remove native apps. I’m tired of MIUI Contact apps which all the time conflicts with Whatsapp and Signal. And MIUI browser which is absolute rubbish. We need to be able to get rid of that crap, then the phone would be perfect.
