Tecno Pop 8 Launched with 90Hz Display, Unisoc T606 Chip and More

Tecno keeps its commitment to users in the mid-range market by introducing a new handset that brings decent specifications and an affordable pricing. The device continues the legacy of Pop series, offering an all-round set of specifications, neat design and decent price. The Tecno Pop 8 arrives today with a 90 Hz display, better cameras, more RAM and storage than its predecessor. Through this article, we will learn what this device has in tow for the competitive segment.

Tecno Pop 8 – Specifications and Key Features

The Tecno Pop 8 was introduced today with a 6.6-inch LCD screen with 720p resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. This certainly is not impressive for users that are used to 1080p phones with 120 Hz or even 144Hz refresh rate. However, for the pricing point, the Tecno Pop 8 aims to offer the basic experience, but at the same time, aims to make this experience pleasant. For basic users, that just want to navigate through the web, or use social media apps, this display will be enough. For some users, 720p won’t be an issue either as the 90 Hz refresh rate will make everything look smooth.

The device has a punch-hole cutout at the front that serves as a home for the 8 MP front-facing camera. Tecno is also bringing its Dynamic Port which makes use of the are around the punch-hole cutout with useful notifications, charging status and call status. This feature can be seen on Custom Android ROMs or through the use of third-party applications, but this is the first time we see it coming with a stock ROM. It’s a nice use for the punch-hole area.

Moving around to the back, the Tecno Pop 8 brings a 13 MP main camera with an AI cam. There is a third cutout that serves as a home for the LED flash. The camera setup is modest, but you should be able to capture decent stills under decent light conditions.

The Performance

Under the hood, the Unisoc T606 chipset moves the wheel with its eight cores. It’s not the most powerful chipset for gamers, but for basic usage it’s a decent offering. The phone comes in options with 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM and 64GB or 128 GB of Storage. You can also expand the storage amount with a micro SD Card.

In terms of software, the phone runs Android 13 Go Edition and the lights are kept on by a huge 5,000 mAh battery. Unfortunately, there is no fast-charging as there is only 10W charging available.

Pricing and Availability

The Tecno Pop 8 comes in Mystery White, Alpenglow Gold, Magic Skin and Gravity Black colors. The phone will start at INR 7,000 in India which is about $85. The price can easily justify these specifications. The phone is an all-rounder for basic usage.
