While technical details remain under wraps, leaks indicate the X Plus will feature a 10-core CPU compared to the X Elite’s 12 cores. This suggests a potential trade-off in raw processing power. Additionally, the X Plus might have a less powerful AI processing unit and graphics processing unit (GPU) compared to its premium sibling.

This two-pronged approach aligns with earlier rumors suggesting eight total SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) across the X Elite and X Plus families. These variants could offer different clock speeds and memory configurations. Importantly, both lines are expected to leverage the new Oryon CPU cores designed by Nuvia. It’s known for delivering a balance between performance and efficiency.

Also, the X Plus series is a more cost-effective alternative to the X Elite. Potentially mirroring Apple’s strategy with the M-series processors (M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max). So, this move could broaden the appeal of ARM-based Windows laptops by offering a price point more accessible to a wider range of consumers.

So, by introducing a tiered performance structure within the Snapdragon X family, Qualcomm aims to cater to a broader market within the Windows on ARM ecosystem. This approach could potentially accelerate the adoption of ARM processors in Windows laptops. Offering users a compelling combination of performance, efficiency, and potentially, affordability.
