Honor’s next foldable, the Magic V5, hasn’t been announced yet, but early leaks are starting to draw a clearer picture. The device, identified under model number MHB-AN10, recently passed through China’s CMIIT certification. That, on its own, doesn’t confirm much—just that it exists. But according to a tipster comment tied to the listing, the V5 could arrive with a typical battery capacity of 6,100 mAh.
That’s a near 20% increase over its predecessor, the Magic V3, which was already praised for its above-average battery life in the foldable category. For context, the V3 packed a 5,000 mAh battery, which made it one of the longest-lasting foldables on the market at the time.
Beating vivo by a Sliver?
This new capacity would also give the Magic V5 a narrow lead over vivo’s upcoming X Fold5, which is rumored to ship with a 6,000 mAh battery. The tipster even went so far as to say the V5 would top vivo by exactly 100 mAh. That’s not much, obviously, but in a spec war, even small numbers matter—at least for bragging rights.
Honor Magic V5: More Power, Less Bulk?
What makes this especially interesting is the claim that the V5 will be under 9 mm thick when folded. That’s thinner than the Magic V3’s 9.2 mm profile and notable if true. It suggests Honor is continuing to refine its hinge engineering while adopting silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery cells. This is a growing trend among Chinese OEMs. These Si/C cells allow for more energy storage in the same physical footprint, which could explain the battery bump without making the phone feel brick-like.
That said, we’re still in rumor territory. No official launch date, no confirmed specs, and no word from Honor on when we might get a reveal. Still, with certification already underway, a formal announcement probably isn’t far off.
If Honor pulls this off—bigger battery, thinner design—it could help shift the conversation around foldables from “compromise” to “actually practical.” But as always, execution will matter more than the early numbers.
