Redmi might have another midrange disruptor on the way. Or maybe it’s just testing the waters. Either way, a new leak from Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station dropped today, and it outlines what seems to be the Redmi Turbo 5 — a phone with a rumored 7,000mAh+ battery, a Dimensity 8500 chipset, and some fairly premium design choices.
We’re not looking at an ultra-premium flagship here. But still, the spec sheet (if accurate) feels overbuilt for a midrange.
Dimensity 8500, or Something Close
According to this Redmi Turbo 5 leak, the company is currently testing a new phone with the Dimensity 8500 chip under the hood. Possibly branded as the 8500 Ultra when it ships, but that part’s fuzzy. It’s probably not going to compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, sure, but in its own lane, the 8500 is no slouch. Performance will likely be more than enough for everyday stuff, maybe even some serious gaming.
This unnamed device is widely believed to be the Turbo 5. There’s been speculation before, but this is the clearest set of specs so far. And honestly? It doesn’t sound like a budget phone.
The Display Sounds Solid (But Not Wild)
We’re looking at a 6.6-inch 1.5K LTPS OLED screen, apparently. Slightly rounded corners, a metal middle frame, and minimal rear camera design. That last bit is vague—it might just mean the camera housing won’t stick out. Or maybe it’s just… clean. Hard to say.
Also interesting: the tipster hints that the phone will have a “better in-hand feel” than its predecessor. That’s subjective, obviously, but suggests Redmi is focusing a bit more on ergonomics and materials. Mid-size form factor, probably not too bulky.
A Battery That Starts With a Seven
Now the battery—this is where things get weird. The leak says the phone will come with a battery that starts with 7, implying a 7,000mAh+ capacity. That’s huge. Most phones hover around 5,000mAh. Even so-called battery monsters rarely go above 6,000mAh.
So if this is real, the Turbo 5 could be a multi-day device. Maybe even more if the software is dialed in. Plus, it’s said to use a high-silicon battery, which is less common but offers better energy density. Longer life, possibly slower degradation. Small detail, but kind of important if you’re holding onto a phone for more than a year.
Global Version? Probably Poco
One more wrinkle: the Turbo 5 may launch globally as the Poco X8 Pro. That’s not confirmed, but it follows Xiaomi’s usual pattern—Redmi in China, Poco everywhere else. We’ve seen it before, so it’s plausible.
Specs would likely stay the same, maybe with minor tweaks. Could be a smart move, actually. Poco has stronger brand recognition in certain regions, especially among younger buyers who care more about specs than software.
Meanwhile, in India…
Redmi India is also teasing something. No hard details yet, but it’s expected to be the Redmi Note 15 series. Whether the Turbo 5 (or Poco X8 Pro) shows up there too remains to be seen. Timing-wise, it would make sense. But Xiaomi sometimes staggers these things for reasons that aren’t always obvious.
