JiaYu are making great leaps with the development of the Snapdragon 600 powered JiaYu S1 and have released a couple of videos to show its wireless charging and CNC frame.
For months now we have known that the JiaYu S1 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core CPU running at 1.7Ghz, 2GB RAM, 32GB memory and a 5-inch 1080 OGS display, but just as the G4 spawned OTG support the JiaYu S1 is gaining features throughout itβs development.
In the video below we get so see the JiaYu S1βs wireless charging feature in action working with a JiaYu branded wireless charging dock. The video also gives us a great first look at a functional S1, its 1080 display and also the stainless steel band which runs around the edge of the phone.

As for that stainless steel band, it isnβt just for looks and is actually part of a CNC machined stainless steel chassis to which all the components are fastened to. The JiaYu G4 has something similar and anyone who has used one will know that the G4 is a sturdy phone with no noticeable flex.

The S1 is looking to be one great Chinese Android phone with some excellent features including 13 mega-pixel Sony rear camera and NFC. We canβt wait to see it in the flesh.

I… don’t get the point of “wireless” charging if you’re still required to put down the phone. Heck it’s even more restrictive than simply connecting cable since you obviously can’t lift the phone up while it’s charging.

You are right it is convenient in some situations but not so much in practical use.
Imagine coming home, late at night, tired and you just can’t find where is the cable, where does it end and where is the microUSB port. If you have wireless charging, you just put it on your table/shelf/nightstand and it starts charging
Yes I’ve had that as the only scenario possible for such gimmick and it’s sure is convenient but not sure if it’s worth the asking price of the charger. Most people I know never move their charger from the designated wallmart anyway.

I think it is a practical function. You have the charger at home or in the office. Don’t have to plug in, just lay the phone on the charger. You can easily pick it up when on the rush. If you are an old fashioned guy, you can still use the good old usb. … and now it is something copied from the Finnish team π
I guess the systems is something like those induction ovens, so now power consumption when ther is no phone on the “stove”.

What’s the difference between having the “wireless” charger and the cable charger? Aside from the cable being less bulky of course.

Now what happen when someone call and you have to pick the phone though? (Assuming you don’t have bluetooth headset ready).
You pick the phone up, answer it and put it back on the wireless charger.

There is no such thing like died midway. That is for careless and SGS3 users.

This will take forever and snapdragon 600 will be long in the tooth by then. Still a nice mid range option.
Electric tooth brushes have long had holders that charges when not in use.
It would have been more useful, if JiyaYu charger was in the shape of a docking station or stand. Have seen a couple at eBay for Samsung. Not wireless but the phone slips into a connector. Nice angled so that the phone can still be used.
