Apple and the Japanese style brand Issey Miyake launched the new
iPhone Pocket in mid-November. The small knitted bag drew wide attention. The soft knit look made many think of the old iPod Sock line, which Apple cut many years ag
The new bag came in two trim types, with the short bag set at 1299 yuan ($184) and the long bag at 1899 yuan ($268). The high sum did not stop the rush. The stock
went fast, and the bag was gone from the Apple shop in a short time.
Some users liked the fun knit art, while some said the bag was a “rip-off,” yet the mixed reaction only gave the bag more attention.
Fast flood of fake bags
With the real bag out of stock, many users went to the web in search of the item. And not long after, fake bags flooded the market. Even a big e-commerce site had these fakes.
By Nov 19, the first wave of fake knit bags was on
Amazon. One bag, sold by a shop named JKEindia, had a name with a heavy key load for web hits. It also had a look so near to the real bag that the two were hard to tell apart at first glance.
The wear shot for the fake bag even tried to copy the pose used for the Apple show, though the edit work was less neat. The page text for the fake bag used many core selling cues from the Apple page. This includes terms like soft knit feel, snug fit, and wide use for many phone types.
The fake long bag was set at $99, which is less than half the real long bag sum of $268, but still high for a knit bag. The shop also had a low-sum knit bag for $29.99. It tried to copy the short type of the real line and came in many tints for more pull.
Risk for users and weak clue signs
These fake bags are not hard to spot for those who look with care. Yet many users may be tricked by the near shape and the Apple link in the name.
Some users may think they have found a rare deal on a top brand bag, only to find they got a copy with low-knit work and weak cloth. A knit bag with one slot and no firm hold is not worth nearly $100 in most cases.
Users who pay such sums for a copy may feel let down. The fast rise of these copies shows how hot-selling items draw quick clone work, and users need to use care and check shops well to avoid loss.
