Google's Pixel 12 series is still far away, but the first details are
already starting to appear. A new IMEI database listing has reportedly revealed four upcoming Pixel phones, including the
Pixel 12 Pro Fold. And the foldable could get the biggest display upgrade of the entire lineup.
The listing was found in the GSMA IMEI database by OVR Plus. It includes the Pixel 12, Pixel 12 Pro, Pixel 12 Pro XL and Pixel 12 Pro Fold, along with their model numbers and reported display resolutions.
The Fold gets a much sharper screen
The Pixel 12 Pro Fold is listed with a 2296 x 2404-pixel inner display. That's a big jump from the 2076 x 2152 resolution used by the Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
In total, the new panel would have about 24% more pixels. That should make text, photos and other content look sharper, especially when using the phone for split-screen work.
The screen would still keep the same near-square shape, though.
Google does not seem ready to move to the wider foldable design used by some of its rivals. Personally, I think a wider inner screen could make the Pixel Fold more useful for everyday tasks, so it's a little disappointing to see Google stick with the current shape.
The other Pixel 12 phones are different
The standard Pixel 12 is listed at 1080 x 2400 pixels, while the Pixel 12 Pro could use a 1280 x 2824 panel. The Pixel 12 Pro XL is listed at 1344 x 2952 pixels.
These numbers are actually slightly lower than the Pixel 11 series. That does not mean the new phones will have worse screens. We still don't know their final display sizes or exact aspect ratios, so it is too early to call this a downgrade.
The launch is still far away
Google is expected to launch the Pixel 12 series around August 2027. That's a long way from now, which means these specifications can still change before the phones become official.
For now, the Pixel 12 Pro Fold is easily the most interesting part of the leak. A higher-resolution inner display would be a useful upgrade, although I would have liked to see Google change the foldable's shape as well. Perhaps I'm easily bored?
