Huawei Kirin 820 in the Works with 6nm Process & Cortex A77 Cores

Huawei's self-developed HiSilicon Kirin 810 is undoubtedly a very powerful product. Since its launch in June of 2019, it has indeed dominated the AnTuTu mid-range rankings for several months; becoming one of the most powerful processors in mid-range category.

As for the reason behind this success. The Kirin 810 actually comes with some rather impressive specs, such as the leading 7nm process, the DaVinci architecture NPU and the use of Cortex A76 large cores. The chipset doesn't fare too bad even against newer arrivals the likes of Snapdragon 765G and Exynos 980; with its performance not falling much behind. Thus people are really looking forward to the successor of the Kirin 810.
Well, today a Chinese source broke the news that the Huawei Kirin 820 "will be a flagship processor without cost restrictions". It was also reported that the Kirin 820 will use Samsung's 6nm manufacturing process, using more EUV layers than TSMC's 7nm process, which can provide an additional 18% density improvement. Which would put it ahead of its rivals for at least half a year.

Architecturally, the Kirin 820 may be upgraded to Cortex A77 large cores; while we still have no data on the GPU and NPU used yet. In addition, the Kirin 820 is likely to integrate 5G baseband and support dual-mode 5G networks; a better technology as opposed to NSA-only 5G support.
Finally, the source said that the Huawei Kirin 820 will be mass-produced in the second quarter of this year; but it is still unknown when it will be shipped. That said, the chipset should be equipped on the next Nova series and later land on the Honor 10X series.
