The PadFone Mini has been out in Taiwan for a while now. It was expected that the device would eventually make its way overseas. Now that ASUS's CES press conference has come and gone, we finally know more about it. Unfortunately, it has lower specs than the domestic version. How much lower are the American PadFone Mini specs? The ASUS PadFone Mini is really two devices in one. It starts out as a 4 inch smart phone, but can also be docked into a "shell" and become a 7 inch tablet. Its an idea ASUS has tried in the past, only this time with smaller devices.
So what kind of horse power does the ASUS PadFone Mini have? The hybrid device utilizes the 1.6Ghz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 CPU, an 8MP front camera, a 2MP back camera, 8GBs of expandable internal storage, and 1GB of RAM. The phone unit has a 4 inch 800x400 display while the tablet dock boasts a 7 inch 1280x800 screen. The duo is also surprisingly light, coming in at 116g for the phone and 260g for the dock. The phone utilizes a 17oomAh battery and the dock includes a 2100mAh battery.
The Padfone Mini also runs Android 4.3 using ASUS new Zen UI skin. An upgrade to 4.4 (Kit Kat) is sure to be in the works. Not exactly ground breaking specs, but with a U.S. price tag of only $249, its isn't a bad value for someone looking to purchase both a phone and a tablet.
