HMD Global has developed a smartphone that can regulate the content that children consume. Named HMD Fuse, the phone is made primarily for safety and protection, giving parents the ability to control activities on their children’s devices.

HarmBlock AI: Protecting Against Nudity

The main selling point for this device is what HMD calls HarmBlock AI. This AI can detect and block nude content from appearing anywhere on the screen.
Indecent subject matters are automatically restricted irrespective of the source. Whether it is a video or image content from the internet, a social media app, or even the camera, they get blocked. This makes the Fuse stand out as a device focused on protecting younger users from inappropriate visuals.

Strict Parental Controls

The phone does not work like a regular smartphone straight out of the box. By default, most apps and features are turned off. Children can only make calls and use the camera unless a parent approves of more functions. Even contacts must be allowed by parents before they appear on the phone. Parents can also monitor the device’s location and view location history, which provides extra peace of mind. They can also set limits so the phone cannot be used at school or late at night.

Hardware and Performance

The hardware features of the Fuse are pretty decent considering that it’s a phone made for kids. Under the hood, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. The chip is supported by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage with micro SD card support. The phone has a large 6.56-inch screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate.
In the camera section, it uses a large 108 MP main camera as well as a 50 MP front camera for selfies. Its 5000 mAh battery supports fast charging of up to 33W through a USB-C port.

Price and Availability

Right now, the HMD Fuse is only being sold in the UK, and it comes exclusively through Vodafone. Buyers need to pay £30 upfront, followed by monthly payments of £33. The phone also comes with two protective cases, one of which includes a fold-out LED ring that makes selfies easier to take. HMD Global has said that the Fuse will expand to other markets in the coming months.
