Spotify is introducing a major new feature for Premium Family subscribers, making it simpler for parents to manage the content their children access.

The new tool is called Managed accounts. This tool is designed to give adults greater control over their kids' listening experience on the platform.

Key Safety Features

The Managed accounts feature brings a suite of powerful content filters. Parents can now specifically block explicit content across their child's profile.
Beyond general filtering, the controls enable adults to ban specific content, allowing them to easily remove certain songs, albums, or artists they deem unsuitable.
Additionally, parents can hide the short video clips that play alongside some music tracks. To further enhance safety, the in-app messaging feature has been entirely removed from these child accounts. These new restrictions are specifically for children under 13 years old.

Availability and Deployment

Spotify is first bringing Managed Accounts to a handful of major markets, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
This early launch looks like the start of a gradual rollout before the feature becomes available worldwide. Crucially, access to the Managed accounts feature is exclusive to those who hold a Premium Family subscription, integrating it directly into the benefits of the family plan.

Separate from Spotify Kids App

The Kids app is built specifically for the little ones. But this new feature lets you put limits right onto a regular Spotify account.
So, you get to choose whether you want the super simple Kids app or if you want your child on the full Spotify platform, but with your safety rules locked in. It's all about what works best for your family.

Listening Autonomy

Even with the new limits in place, Spotify still lets kids have some freedom to enjoy and shape their own music experience. Kids can still curate their own songs and playlists.
Spotify’s algorithm will keep suggesting music based on what kids already like and listen to. These recommendations won’t mix with their parents’ playlists or suggestions. This way, kids can still explore and build their own taste in music. They’ll do so while staying within the limits their parents set through the Managed Accounts feature.
