REDMI hasn't even launched the K100 series yet and people are already asking what comes after it. Turns out, so is
REDMI. Product Manager Hu Xinxin
fielded fan speculation this week and more or less confirmed the next flagship lineup skips straight to K200.
Here's the thing, K110 was apparently on the table at some point. Hu shot it down, saying it "feels a bit odd." Fair enough, I guess, though I'd argue plenty of naming decisions in this industry feel odd and companies ship them anyway.
The logic isn't random though.
HONOR does this with its numeric series.
Vivo does it with the X line. Once you cross the 100 mark, you don't creep up by tens, you jump by hundreds. It's a pattern REDMI is apparently happy to follow rather than break.
K110 feels a bit odd." — REDMI Product Manager Hu Xinxin, on why the brand's next flagship almost certainly won't carry that name.
None of this matters much on its own — it's a name, not a chipset. But it's a decent little signal about how these companies think about their own product lines. You spend two or three generations building a number into a brand (the K series has been around for years now), and then the moment it crosses a threshold, the whole thing resets. Makes you wonder how much of this is genuine strategy versus just what looked cleanest in a slide deck.
Meanwhile, the
K100 series itself is real and landing August 11. REDMI's doing something slightly unusual here too, staggering the release: K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max ship first, with the standard K100 following later. The Pro and Pro Max are also carrying Xiaomi's first 185Hz gaming panel, tuned for over 30 popular titles, and the Pro runs on Qualcomm's new
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series chip, a gaming-leaned cousin of the standard 8 Elite Gen 5 that's powering the Pro Max.
Add a dedicated antenna, a beefed-up touch controller, and Bose-tuned audio for things like footsteps and gunfire, and it's clear REDMI wants this to read as a gaming phone first, flagship second.
So yeah, K200 is coming eventually. But K100 hasn't even had its moment yet. One thing at a time.
