The OnePlus 16 is still a few weeks away, but we now have a much better idea of what its cameras could look like. A new leak claims that OnePlus will use a 200MP main camera, along with two 50MP cameras on the back. The selfie camera is getting an upgrade too.
That's a big change from the OnePlus 15, which used 50MP sensors for all three rear cameras.

A new 200MP main camera

According to Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 16 will have a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor. The leaker says this large sensor will be used only on the OnePlus 16 within its sub-series.

More pixels don't always mean better photos, of course. But the larger sensor should give OnePlus more room to work with, especially when it comes to detail and low-light shots.
This leak is also interesting because earlier reports told a different story. Some claimed that OnePlus would keep a 50MP main camera and use a 200MP sensor for the periscope instead. So, things may have changed during testing.

What about the other cameras?

The rest of the setup looks more familiar. OnePlus is said to be using a 50MP periscope camera with 3x optical zoom. It should have a 1/1.95-inch Sony sensor, while a new 50MP ultrawide camera will complete the setup on the back.
The selfie camera could also get some attention this year. The leak points to a 50MP front camera with autofocus, which should help keep faces sharp at different distances.
That gives us a 200MP + 50MP + 50MP setup on the back and another 50MP camera on the front. On paper, at least, OnePlus seems much more serious about cameras this time.

More than just cameras

The OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be a pretty powerful phone elsewhere too. Earlier leaks point to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, along with a huge 9,000mAh battery. Charging could reach 100W over a cable and 50W wirelessly.
OnePlus is also expected to use a new BOE display with a 165Hz refresh rate. Some games could even run at 185Hz, although we'll have to see how many titles actually support that.
Other leaked specs include an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, dual speakers and IP68/IP69 water and dust protection. The phone should run Android 17 with ColorOS 17 in China.
OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 16 in China in early October. Nothing is official yet, and the camera leaks have changed more than once. Still, a 200MP main camera would be a clear sign that OnePlus wants to take photography more seriously this year.
