Recently, the Telecommunications Research Institute of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the overall situation of China mobile phone market in September and January-September 2018.
According to the report, the total shipment volume of China smartphone market in September 2018 was 39.022 million units, down by 11.7% year-on-year and 19.7% quarter-on-quarter.
In September 2018, 91 new models were launched, down 26.0% year-on-year and 65.5% quarter-on-quarter. The new models included 18 models of 2G mobile phones, 1 model of 3G mobile phones and 72 models of 4G mobile phones.
In September 2018, 4G mobile phone shipments reached 37.012 million units, accounting for 94.8% of China mobile phone shipments during the same period.
For the whole year, from January to September 2018, China mobile phone market shipped 305 million units, down 17.0% year-on-year, of which 276 million Chinese brands were shipped.
From January to September 2018, 2G mobile phone shipments were 16.762 million units, down 19.7% year-on-year; 3G mobile phone shipments were 49,000 units, down 90.9% year-on-year; 4G mobile phone shipments were 288 million units, down 16.7% year-on-year.
From January to September 2018, 635 new models were launched, down 22.8% year-on-year. The new models included 144 models of 2G mobile phones, 3 models of 3G mobile phones, and 488 models of 4G mobile phones.
From the distribution of smartphone manufacturers, the top 10 manufacturers in the first three quarters of this year had a total shipment share of 92%, an increase of 8 percentage points compared with the same period of the previous year.
